We don’t play him in his position- we don’t play wingers or indeed a number 10 or three up top all of which he could be effective in.All of Wood's goals have come in pre season or at a lower level, he played plenty at the start of last season and he didn't look physically strong enough to have an impact on the game.
He went to Tonbridge playing his natural position a got plenty. He had a chance last night and couldn’t do more than bang in a hatrick in a side otherwise on the back foot and letting in five…We have to decide what we are going to do with him. Not playing him is pointless and unfair and harms his development.
A very realistic outcome is if we loan him to a NL side who play him in his natural position he will score regularly, we can get a fee and watch him become another Gary Hooper. I have an uncharitable feeling we don’t like that idea either for no other reason than it would be embarrassing. It shouldn’t be- he doesn’t fit into our system.
