I've calmed down at this now but I still can't really see a way back for him. It's just a massive **** you to the fans IMO. Relationship beyond repair at this point. Can you imagine the reaction he'll get if he plays again?

An apology will only go so far with people. Is he likely to step up his performances on the pitch? Lets be real, he aint is he.

Which ever way you see this, his SUFC career is probably over

The gravity of his misdemeanour is irrelevant. He's worsened an already toxic atmosphere in the ever widening split between players & supporters. Older pro's like Cox would know that when you've just been humbled by a team full of part timers, the last thing you do is party like you've won the league.

There is no way back for Lennon in my eyes. With Timlin/Hall and even Mohsni, they put a shift in on the playing field and endeared themselves to the supporters. Lennon should not play in the first team again and come January be sent out on loan or offloaded.
This .... it’s not about the crime. As there is no crime it’s what he does week in and week out on the field coupled by not showing an ounce of compassion for the club and fans that he represents, to top it all off he is then out socialising with the exact opposition that have knocked his club out of the cup live on telly directly after the game .... in his club provided travel tracksuit .... regardless of Old Blue Lady’s blinkered view... that is everything that is wrong with the players he have at this club at this time ... exactly that and I hope they find a way of ****ing the big usless donkey out of the club ... unlike you OBL I can see he is simply shoeing a living out of the club without a care in the world for the people like you who give so much for so little

Amazing at how bad Lennon is (which he really is) one of England's best ever centre halves picks him over Kiernan and people on this bloody forum still rate Keirnan HAHAHA. One of our worst ever signings. 3 year contract, sky high wages injured for 18 months comes back totally awful.

I suspect he picks Lennon because it should be the right decision. Left footed, pacey CB playing on the left of a back three- left footed is important as you have to cove the LB channel also. That said he has let himself down.

I don't even think it would be that bad if we had a few players that would pull him aside and ask him what the **** he thinks he's doing, but who in this squad is gonna do that?

Cannot wait for these lot to **** off in the summer

He covered the left channel very well for their goal. You described someone who sounded like they could be a good player there, that's not Lennon.

Yes he should be the natural choice there but has played badly enough to want to put a right footed player in because they will do better. Liam Ridewell/Kyps are candidates and not at the same time for obvious reasons. I am sure if JW were fit Sol like every manager before him would have him in there as first name on the team sheet at this point. Oh for commitment and professionalism now..

Couldn’t agree more and this is the issue with the squad. Look at all the top players in the world and most share an elite mentality. Eat, sleep and breathe football. Never expect less than 100% and are leaders. Look at the likes of Ronaldo, Campbell, Keane, Terry, Neville etc.

The lower down the leagues you get, the less likely you’ll get that, but you always need one or two in the squad. We’ve had Barrett etc. But at the moment we have none. No one who gives enough of a **** and no leaders.

If a player had done this in Sir Alex’s class of 92 team, the players would absolutely rip him to shreds themselves, before Sir Alex finished the job. I can’t imagine a single player saying a word to Lennon. They’re probably all laughing and joking in their group chats about the bollocking he’ll get in the morning.

Yes, I agree with all of this, and rightly so, but social media is the current players' curse, and something that may have gone well under the radar in the past is dissected at every level now. There is something very toxic at RH, both on and off the pitch at the moment and it's absolutely killing the club.

This. Are they being paid? I'd have assumed we would have heard about it if they weren't.

Something isn't right either way

Sadly, I think soshul meedja is society's curse. I often long for the halcyon days of my youth and early adulthood, indeed, when there were no mobile phones. It wasn't that bad.

And surely you are one of the few on here who is in a position to identify just what the toxicity is. Quite frankly I am baffled as to what could be going on.

It's the wearing of the Southend top that's the issue.

Anything else is partly defendable, but it's taking the p***, given our season.

This, from someone we basically paid for doing nothing for a year and a bit, whilst nursing him back to fitness.

Id tell him to make a public apology and transfer list him or push it further and tear up his contract..Then the club gets flak from PFA...I see this regretable and moronic behaviour on Lennons part as symptomatic of a general squad level lack of discipline and application which has to change...Mr Martin get this clown off the wages, its not as though the team would miss him.

He's a very silly boy and I think he will be shocked at the level of offence his behaviour has caused. There's no grounds for sacking him - no evidence he is drunk or drinking and I doubt the club can really order players to go straight home - they all have lives.

However, I have had a nagging feeling for quite a while that our players take our support for granted. Almost as if because we are a small club, our fans aren't as passionate and they would get away with things they wouldn't at, say, Charlton in Lennon's case.

I hope that Lennon learns a lesson from this and I also hope that a number of the other players saw the level of vitriol aimed at him, and also at them from the terrace on Sunday, and realise that actually we're not prepared to be taken for granted.

If I was Harry Lennon, I'd have issued an apology already and not just the sort of cut and paste template that players normally trot out after a poor result. I'd also have been on the phone to Kevin Maher this morning for a bit of advice. If Harry Lennon gets a second chance, he is here until 2021. If there is one man who knows a thing or two about battling back from the very edge to becoming a fully fledged club hero, it is Maher.

I have a lot of Charlton supporting mates who tell me that Lennon got away with a number of abysmal performances thanks to the fact he was a homegrown youth-team graduate.

I would imagine, however this ultimately shakes out, that his career at Southend is over and he will find his rightful level in the 5th tier of English football or lower.

After many, many months without any kind of liaison meeting with the club since before GK left, I am pleased to say RM has finally given us access to those we need to arrange one. I am not sure we will get any answers to this toxicity issue there but we shall see, there are certainly lots of rumblings of discontent around.

They're not forced to go on there nor are they forced to accept requests for friendships etc.

One of our current young players doesn't go on there but someone has got hold of his mobile number and sends him vile abuse and threats......Something his family aren't to happy about.....Still its only the minority and he needs to learn its all part of playing for Southend.

Yo can go to prison, beat your girlfriend up or rob old ladies......As long as your a decent player that's ok......That doesn't include you Mr Lennon so you deserve all you get.

Every club has its’ minority of idiots and would forgive most players if they did the business on the pitch, football has always been this way and our fans (on the whole) are patient and welcoming. Lennon is one of a crop of players who don’t appear to want to play for Southend and respect the club, as Stan, Ranger amd others did and still do. Leaving the moral rights and wrongs out of it, that’s a fact. Anyone who crosses the line and abuses the guy directly, on social media or otherwise, is a scumbag. It’s a game at the end of the day.

Very true MK. Cox arranges nights out in London mid-week and if the young non drinking players don't attend they get £100 fine. Some of them try make out their fruit juice contains something stronger......Perhaps that's what Lennon was trying to do yesterday.
