IT'S A JOKE!

FLIPPING HELL!

I would've thought,

I'd let you shag my wife! instead of 'your' wife or bird or whatever!

IT IS A JOKE! A BIT OF BANTER! WHY IS THERE SUCH AN UPROAR ABOUT THIS!

Deary me!

Ask the OBL she parades around these days telling people they are wrong all the time

No uproar as far as i can tell, just people stating there opinion. I just reckon there must be a better chant for a new up and coming southend striker

Now there has been a difference of opinion between me and the OBL that the Harry Crawford song is rude and should not be sung at games.

So I am sticking a poll up to get a wider view on this.

The words are taken from the old Nicky Bailey song

Oh Harry Crawford you are the love of my life
Oh Harry Crawford I wanna shag your bird
Oh Harry Crawford we want ginger hair too

(and repeat)

I personally cant see whats wrong with it there is no swearing involved albeit its a bit blue!

your views?

Good Song!

You are probably right, but what i mean is, it is a joke!
I will join in, with any song really! I don't care, much!

It's just a laugh! If you can't have a laugh at football (ignoring the league position) Where can you have a joke about? If like me you are in an office all day, I just want to get in the stands, have a beer, have a muck about support the club, go home depressed.

The song is probably a bit cringey but does it really matter?

Harry hasn't really done anything, and i presume the singing of this chant was only done out of an on the spot thing! I just don't see why there is such a problem with it!

I've actually only heard the song no more than 5 times!

I agree maybe a better song is needed, but I don't see any suggestions!

UTB!

think its a bit much tbh, especially as people like francis havent got there own tune yet.
and just for the record im not debating the TBVs importance, its undoubtably crucial.
and whoever came up with the used to be ***** but now hes alright one is a genius, funniest chant ive heard in years!

See, I thought that was a bit harsh when I first heard it, until I saw Mildy's response. Now i've got used to it and it's only a bit of a laugh. Good to see Mildy's got a sense of humour :)

Nothing wrong in young people coming to football but don't march in expecting to take the crass cheeky and blue chants out of it

See Mildenhall knows we like him! some people need to learn that some things are meant as a joke - to portray that Crawford is a young untouched virgin who has never said a swear word in his life or smoked or had a drink under-age is a farce.
He is a young lad of modern times and in that sense I bet he loves the attention at his age :)

Inappropriate considering the age of the player as I've already said.

He is not a minor though. Kids/teenagers/youngsters are all privvy to this sort of language etc in all forms of daily life.

On your basis, you could say every chant/song that has any "bad" language should be outlawed as he (aswell as the other youngsters) may here it

Exactly

I throw the floor open to ideas :)

I'm still backing the Harre Krisha style;

Harry Harry...Harry Crawford,

Harry Harry...Harry Crawford

Francis has 2(?), one of which has been sung a number of times in recent games

Boring Scott, and a sweeping generalisation. I knew the momentary feeling of compassion while I was in hospital was far too good to last.

Harry Crawford is a young lad who has just made a couple of appearances for the first team, he doesn't need or merit a chant at all at the moment. What he needs is support and encouragement while he settles in, that doesn't mean a chant that was decidedly in bad taste when it was first thought up. Did Bailey himself ever acknowledge it? Most of those around be at Gillingham do not frequent these boards so are not likely to register their disapproval, so I think you might find that it's a far larger number who do disapprove, for whatever reason. He's a similar age to my son, and I know I'd hate it if I was a member of his family, hearing that sung.

As I've kept saying, there are other more senior members of the team that have no chants, concentrate on finding something for them. I still don't think Grant has one yet most on here consider him to be one of our top players this season. All we hear week in, week out is Mildenhall, Barrett, Scannell, Herd and Moussa. If you're going to single individuals out then make it appropriate, if not, then stick to generics, where you're supporting the whole team.

Wrong again I was very concerned as it goes I asked after your health many times to people we might not always get on with views on SUFC but I would not see any harlm come to ANYBODY on this board

Its a cheek though that you think we needs tips on support from you or anybody, the support at this club has come on leaps and bounds in the last 3-4 years.

I do think with the chant you getting a bit too PC about it all

More than anything, it's just a bit naff, isn't it?

In my opinion, it's just one of these Identi-Chants that get thrown around football grounds, slightly altered to fit a certain player for the sake of it.

If someone has already posted this I appologise - got so bored reading the thread I didn't get beyond the 1st page.

Where's the option for "I couldn't give a flying ferret if you sing or don't sing it I just wish you could be more imaginative than reusing songs"

What winds me up about certain section of the support over here is how they discuss chants of the forum, even print chant lyrics to hand out.

I always thought how sad that is. Songs and chants happen naturally, if they work and are good they won't last long. If fans like them they stick around - simple as that.

Now here we are having a debate about a chant....all a bit sad IMO.

Good shout

I don't want to seem like I'm ganging up here or anything!

The chant about Harry Crawford I will say it again! IS A JOKE!
Everyone knows it is a joke!
I'm getting really sick and tired with this WHOLE country becoming so Politically Correct.

i.e.

- You can't wear a cross around your neck at work even though we are a Christian country
- You can't call 'spotted dick pudding' that anymore because it's to rude
- You can't have Ginger bread men, You have to have Ginger bread people
- The cartoon character Dennis the Menace has been totally changed (what a shame) to make him have a little smiley face and be a PC friendly character
- You can't be in a play ground with your child because you will be accused of being a paedophile.
- You can't swear at football matches, and you can't shout out rude words to other fans, or players or referees or you will be fined and band.

It's just driving me absolutely mad!

THIS COUNTRY AND THE VIEWS OF SOME PEOPLE ARE COMPLETELY TWISTED!

What a joke!

That is why this country is ******!

I see your point - chants are mainly given birth at away games then taken back to the hall
