Happy Thanksgiving

Manager
I realize that Thanksgiving isn't celebrated in England, but one of the best parts about the day is that it gives people the chance to realize all the good things in their life, things that they take for granted the rest of the year.  One tradition of this day is before dinner each person says what they are thankful for.  This year I'm thankful for:

-My family
-The fact that my uncle will fully recover from his fight with cancer
-My friends
-The people who work hard on websites such as SZ, TheShrimpers-Online, TLG and all the others, without these it would be much tougher to be a Shrimper in the US.

and finally,

-Steve Tilson and Paul Brush-Not only did they save us last season, but they have also built a strong squad this year, giving us real hope that we might get promoted.

There is a lot more that I'm thankful for, but I'm trying to keep this semi-short.

So what is everyone else thankful for?

The fact that I'm back from the USA now and don't have to eat that sh*tty corn bread rolls. Possibly the worst tasting thing I've ever had.

Why does everything stateside have to either be really salty or really sweet?

I'm thankfull that...

Planet Earth only has to put up with your Terrorist leader for a maximum of
4 more years.

I'm thankfull that 'what goes around, comes around'--boy, is your country
gonna be in sh*t.

I'm thankfull that nearly everyone on planet earth are starting to realise that
to the average Iraqi, Bush is more Dangerous than Sadamm. ( FACT--- The American forces have killed a third as many civillians since occupation than Saddam did in 25 years).

Nothing personal Seth.....
Just sick of your governments world terrorism.

( Sorry for the political post Napster )

I'm thankful that Thanksgiving seems to be one of the last of the US festivals that hasn't been adopted over here.

Trick or f**king treat my arse !

Where did you go?

I recently returned from 3 weeks on Long Island and I thought the food was great, especially the burgers and (on long Island anyway) the seafood.

The breakfasts were a bit hit and miss though. I like the concept of fried potatoes or corned beef hash for breakfast  but they can keep their overcooked bacon and french toast with cinnamon and icing sugar on it though.

A special mention must go to the Brooklyn dodger hero sandwich I had. Enough meat and cheese to feed a small family.

agreed - the tiny little sausages and the crispy, streaky bacon. Oh how I wished for some Danepak back bacon and some fat Wall's bangers!

Agreed, a good Eggs Benedict is very hard to beat as a way to start the day!

Went to Florida and the food was great everywhere just wanted a nice crusty roll and all I kept getting was vile cornbread.

I like the crispy bacon cos thats how I like mine cooked and I went in for the cheesy eggs, cornbeff hash and ham for brekie.

Im thankful for the 2 Sky+ men coming round nice and early and giving me the rest of the day to play with it and also make a few phone calls to moan about pay ...

Cheer up, mate!

Me? I'm thankful for my friends, my family, my health, and my beloved Shrimpers. All of that's worth celebrating, I reckon!

ORM - I can't really see Thanksgiving catching on over here, can you? They were giving thanks, in a sense, for the fact that they had managed to get away from Britain (or at least that they had managed to arrive safely in the US and establish a life there), so it would be pretty ludicrous for us to celebrate that, wouldn't it?!

Anyway isn't thanksgiving a good excuse to have a major **** up? We dont really need that excuse over here do we?!

My understanding was that Thanksgiving was almost like a dummy-run for Christmas, without the pressies... everyone goes back to Mom & Dad's / Grandma & Grandpa's and has turkey & pumpkin pie. In other words, very much a family oriented celebration, rather than a "major **** up".

Besides, you're a styaudent... the only excuse that you need for a "major **** up" is, as I recall, the setting of the sun.

I'm cheerful, just don't like Christmas much, the falseness and hyopocricy of it just bores me and to be honest, I don't need an excuse like a religious festival to get ****ed and eat too much.

Crumbs. My advice: don't turn on the telly. Hopefully, it won't then seem too false or hypocritical.

I wouldn't get too hung up about it... Christmas is, in some respects, a pretty bizarre rag-tag of a festival, drawing on pagan and Christian traditions - so, in a sense, it's quite hard for it to be hypocritical with very much when, in truth, it doesn't stand for all that much in a truly religious sense.

The religious significance it has picked up is the tacking on of a number of Christian concepts onto the pre-existing pagan celebration of Yuletide; after all, as any Christian with even a vague sense of history could tell you, Jesus was almost certainly born in July or August.

If you're a Christian, then Easter should be the big deal, not Christmas.
