Hangover cures

Any of the older poster find that the older you get the more delayed the hangover is the following day??

At 21, it was as soon as I woke up, but now at 40, I wake up feeling a bit groggy but not to bad, and then by 2pm I feel rough as old boots

It's not so much the hangover with me it's a really late night, for about two days I wander round like a zombie with jet lag.

Opposite with me mate, if i go to bed before midnight, i am screwed the following day....think that is down to my heart condition though

It's lack of sleep that does for me more than anything, I do like a minimum of around 6/7 hours. If I've had a late one coupled with loads of booze and a few hours sleep then I have a problem.

Wow, I thought I was normal, but obviously not....if I have more than 5 hours I can not stay awake through out the day

This is so true, I had this exact phenomena last weekend after the Chelsea game.

I woke up on Sunday feeling surprisingley fresh after being bang on it pretty much all of Saturday except for the footy (we did have a cheeky beer at Half time though).

Monday was a different story altogether, it didnt help that it was the first day back after christmas. I didnt drink massively on the Sunday night (had a few glasses of wine with the roast) but I felt like death all day Monday.

Very strange indeed!

I guess it just means that when we get in our 70's the hangover will take a week to catch up

Cricko......can you confirm mate???

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you feel a hangover from a deficiency in:

Water
Sugar
Salt
Vitamin C

Therefore, for me it's a fry up ( no need to add salt) and still Lucozade. I would say fizzy stuff makes me feel worse. Coffee will probably get a go.

To be honest, going out for a run/playing football is the best option for shaking it off by about 4 o'clock. Otherwise it's a long evening of lethargy.

Message for Alexis though - a friend from uni never got hangovers whilst we were there but now gets the worst hangovers of anyone I know. I think of it as comeuppance!

I only ever find a delayed hangover when I am so hammered that the hangover hasn't even kicked in when I've woken up because I'm still pi**ed. You find yourself retching by 3pm - day is normally a complete write off. Must say though when I was 18-20 I could deal with it pretty well. Now even at the young age of nearly 24 I find that I suffer terribly more than I did a few years ago!

I second that.

It all seems so long ago when I could go on a six day bender from Monday to Saturday! Now I struggle the following morning to bag a brace, let alone a hat-trick.

If my downturn continues as rapid as this then it'll take me a week to recover by the time I get to AS's tender old age.

That is like a dagger through my heart, "wooded land boy".

Every hangover is different, (red wine induced, beer, shots etc) and you have to recognise the signs straight away to help choose the right cure that works for you, and therefore however one or a combination of the following always generally helps me feel better.

Irn Bru - Absolutely true!!
Bacon/Sausage/Fried Egg - Generally Greasy sandwich
McDonalds
Sex to cure the Hangover horn
Sweet Tea
Cold, Fresh Air

Sometimes you just have to admit defeat though and write the day off. If you're at work, just get through it. If you're at home, head back to bed.

Problem is, from the age of 27 (scientifically proven by SZFC), hangovers can quite often last 2 days.

Over the years of experimenting with pretty much every alcoholic beverage, I have found that it appears to be the darker drinks that effect me more.....drinks such as Rum, Port and Red Wine give me terrible hangovers, were as white wine, Vodka and Gin are not as bad. Maybe it is something to do with darker drinks having more impurities in them??

As one of the subject matter in that test, I can definately vouch for that. At Uni and early twenties it was no problem going to Cameleon on a weds or Tots on a thursday and knocking back the cheap drinks offers, getting up for work after 3 hours sleep and going out the next evening. Now the idea of attempting that horrifies me!

Drinking lots of water throughout the day before I go out tends to help. I Also find after those evenings where you dont go to bed for ages even after leaving the club / stop drinking mean I dont have as bad a hangover the next day as you are effectively sobering up before you go to bed. I read somewhere that your body kind of goes into a shut down mode when you sleep and therefore doesnt work as effeciently as when you are awake, so maybe this is the reason for this. Could be complete tosh as well!

I find a nice greasy petrol station style Chicken and Bacon Sandwhich, some kettle crisps, lucosade and green tea help. Generally though I will just write off the day!!

There is a reason. It's all to do with congeners.
