Hands up

All sounds a bit harsh if not near the family enclosure.

Think the odd F word is fine and to be expected. If its a raging rant that went on for 2 minutes full of swearing, or the C word then Id understand the complaint. Cant imagine there would be any ranting at a friendly though.

Was no rant more of a '****ing come on Southend'

Kids should be told that there is language at football (which they shouldn't repeat) and language outside of football. If parents are so concerned that swearing is not acceptable to their little darlings ears then go to the family section or don't bring them - it's as simple as that!

When I took my little girl to a game last season most of the people around us were my mates and they did tone it down out of courtesy to her. However that wasn't at my request and if she had heard 'new words' (she was only two at the time, so they would be new to her) then I would have had to explain that they were naughty grown up words and she musn't say them herself.

Got accused of using the F word while shouting, so a woman with a family told me to 'shut up' to which I replied 'I am sorry I swore but there is a family section over there where you children mite be better suited' so then the woman (bit of treacle I mite add) good down to steward and moans off next thing I know its Return of the Jedi and storm troopers everywhere despite people around me who I don't even know defending me!!!!

You should do what I do, carry a card with you saying:

'Dear Sir / Madam, please excuse my bad language, I have Tourette's and therefore cannot control any expletives which may unavoidably escape from my mouth from time to time'.

Optional comment at the bottom of the card - 'F**k off you wan*ing jobsworth mother f**king c**t'!

p.s I have used this on several occasions and it has come in very handy especially at my Nan's funeral, my Sisters Wedding and my Niece's Christening. Likewise in the long queue at the deli counter in Tescos..............

Why should we tell kids that they shouldn't repeat it in the same breath as saying it's OK at a football match? What's the distinction we're making? How is a kid supposed to understand twhy they're not supposed to say something but Dad is?

Why are we assuming that football has lower standards / higher abuse tolerance than the rest of the world? Isn't that what the 'bringing then game into disrepute' stuff is all about? There aren't many sports where swearing is (officially) tolerated so why is it put up with in football? As a hockey umpire, if I am sworn at the player concerned spends a good few minutes in the sin-bin reviewing their linguistic outburst. Not because of the language itself (I'm old and certainly ugly enough to put up with that), but because of the lack of respect it shows.

Yeah lets line them kids up & shoot them all.
How dare they bring their stuck up parents to a SUFC friendly where not many tickets were sold.

Get famillies out I say. Just single like minded swearing fans YEAH!

LMAO!

I understood perfectly as a kid that whilst my dad went to the pub enjoyed a smoke and swore, he would batter me if I tried any of the three.
At football swearing has always gone on, in chants / songs and general banter, the only thing that has changed is far more women attend the game these days and are more likely to find the swearing as inappropriate especially in front of children.
Would this woman still have complained if it had been the away fans swearing...I doubt it.
I dont honestly believe my kids are going to hear anything at football that they won't hear in the playground.

Like I said earlier, we've always had the rule while my son was younger that what's heard at football stays at football. Now he's 16, he's in there with the best of them with the language! Tbh, I'm surprised him and my dad haven't been kicked out of the south lower at some point!

How are you supposed to not swear at some of the refs we've had over the years? Football is a good place to let your frustration out.
It started as a working man's game and with that came the swearing, this is all politically correct b******s.

Put simply - it doesn't happen at rugby matches, come to mention it I have not encountered swearing at other sporting venue's, just seem's to be at football matches. Is that because it is meant to intimidate other people perhaps?

It is more mature not to swear I feel, I'm sure that will go against those posted, but it is never the less true.......

Ive been to see quite a few rugby matches and there is quite a lot of swearing going on around the stadium, but unlike at a football match there's not what I would call uneccessary swearing, and on the pitch swearing is tolerated to an extent, just as long as it's not directed towards the officials who have to be shown utmost respect.

You are right - but I think I made my point etc
