A guy I used to work with is a ST holder at Carrow Road...he leaves early every game. He has a routine...86 minutes get up, leave seat, quick visit to the gents and be out the ground before everyone else. Generally he hears the final whistle a few hundred yards up the road...He does this regardless of the score, win, draw or lose...and the thing is, he doesn't drive to the game, he actually walks home!!!

When they got promoted from the Championship 3 years ago, you might remember, Norwich set some sort of record for late goals and points recovered with goals in the last minutes or in injury time or something like that. He missed 7 or 8 late equalisers or winners, yet still wouldn't change his routine. It was such a regular occurrence him missing goals that the people sitting around him used to tell him to **** off home if they needed a goal pretty much anytime in the last 20 minutes!

That Wycombe fan's quote is well on its way to iconic status - the SUFC version of "Some people are on the pitch..."! The club should use it in merchandise, I'd buy a t-shirt with that on

love that , COuld be our next chant at matches when one nil down with 5 minutes--- although whether everyone would 'get it' I don't know

I have played that back several times now "Last minute, last minute" classic ..........and then followed by Southend played s**t

Thats just bizzare!

You don't watch a whole TV show and then turn it off with minutes to go 'cos you've seen it before and therefore know what happens, you don't go to a Cinema and watch a film for the second time and leave before the end ('cos you know what happens).

So why go to a football match, not just any football match (m&s reference alert!), and leave before the end when you don't know the final outcome, and possible ultimate glory is still in reach?

Unbelievably stupid!!!

I live in Shakespeare Drive and there were people leaving the semi final before the end of normal time!!!

I learn't the lesson many years ago: Friday night 09 / 12 / 77 - Newport County at home

Not just 2 - 0 down with 14 minutes to go, but 2 - 0 down with 14 minutes to go and playing complete 'tosh'.

Final whistle 4 - 2 (Gerry Fell(2), Tony Hadley, Derrick Parker).

I was still there at the end, many had left.

Always, always, always KEEP THE FAITH

That game is the perfect example of why you should never leave a game early. It only takes a second to score a goal, and it turned the game on it's head. Will never forget the explosion of noise when Pigott's shot hit the back of the net, one of the most incredible feelings I have witnessed in all my years of watching and following Southend United.

Oh what a night,
Late in May promotion on the line,
And Pigott scores a goal in injury time,
Oh what a feeling,
What a night...........

not quite as straight forward as 'who put the ball in the bury net...'

but certainly better than our eurovision effort! :winking:

was so funny on tele when the lets go fans before end running back into the ground lol.

What was odd though we're the fans that didn't go back.

As for me, I left early because I had to get a 5 and 6 year old to bed because we had to wake them at 4.00am the next day. I'm ashamed to say we didn't see the players diving on the pitch at the end! We did see JR bring the trophy down though.

Leave before the final whistle? Never in a million years! And we were rewarded, the boys were asleep in their beds by 9.30 after an unbelievably easy drive home.

In a weird way after the sheer elation of the 123rd minute equaliser, it actually took the pressure off the penalty shoot out a little bit. It became almost like a bonus, a second chance if you like, and I wouldn't have been that gutted had we lost the shootout.

Had we lost on penalties after a 0-0 I would have been absolutely distraught, but I think had we lost on penalties after that equaliser I would have been alright with it.

Though I must admit I am reasonably happy we didn't lose the shootout

If you include Morecambe that was our third chance!

Half a dozen leave early, so what, it is a human thing, some do some don't. They missed 14 goals but I saw them all and still watching replays of Piggots goal and Bentleys save. We had no trouble getting away either and we were parked at the stadium.

30 seconds left ....... where's my jacket....... Weston..... run..... cross it!!...... no, don't try to beat another defender.... great cross.... OMG BBBC is on the end of it........ Pig....shoot!!!....keeper has it covered..... OMG far post shot......... AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was my experience of the vital five seconds which those early leavers missed. Five seconds which will live in my memory for ever.

Why leave early at a footy match ? I don't get it ! When teams throw bodies forward at the end, there's always a chance to grab something.

On top of that, the players have worked their socks off this season, and win or lose, I thought they deserved to be clapped off at the end.

Unless there's a valid reason why to leave early, can't understand why people do. We as fans demand players play to the final whistle, yet some fans don't abide by their own demands they set upon players !!

Again, so gutted I wasn't there due to illness, but I have never ever left a ground early. Whilst the game is alive, so are your dreams !!

Great great character and never say die attitude from a superb "family" of players. Something really shown to us all over the last few weeks. This is trait all children should be taught. Talent is nothing without desire and heart !!

I was exactly the same. Even when Coker missed I was fairly ok with it because getting to penalties was such a bonus.

This made me laugh I think everyone of us will never forget that moment......my version. Exc swear words....what's the point in bringing Weston if he's not out wide for crossing......hang on .....go Weston......ffs cross now......you haven't got time .....no don't beat another defender....yes..get it over now..now....get in there Barry...no...yes...no. Piggot shoot..Ggggggggggggggggggggggggggooooooooooooooaaaaaaallllllllllllllllll.......next 2 minutes celebrating on a level unknown before....the noise and emotion of every supporter around unbelievable

Have left early plenty of times. That last 15 seconds will stop me from ever doing it again. I'm bring heart pills in future.
