Greatest Blues Game

Nah, there's a tidy few old gits on here mate.

I remember it too - it's why I've always tried to hang on till the last whistle ever since! I think Lee's right though and it was Derrick, Stuart didn't play with Gerry Fell as far as I can remember.

That's why I put the question mark there. Thanks both for having a better memory than me.

One that probably doesn't get much of a mention but it got me pretty excited at the time, was the FA Cup Third Round tie in 1975, when we came from behind to draw 2-2 with QPR (who were flying a bit higher than they are at present). I remember jumping up and down quite a bit and having to retrieve things that had fallen out of my pocket.......................the replay was less exciting.

Spot on mate, Q.P.R. were at that time in the top 2 of the 1st division (premiership) and had a team full of 'names' including Dave Webb, Don Givens, Stan Bowles and Gerry Francis. 2-0 down in the 2nd half and all seemed lost, then we scored 2 goals in 2 minutes and they were lucky to hold on for a replay. The surge forward in the north bank after our equaliser nearly produced a disaster as many fans lost their footing for a minute or so.

Away at Stockport, 08.5.87- had to win to go up from the 4th or Wolves would pip us. About 20 Wolves fans were in the stand to witness Glenn Pennyfather put us one up with a class volley from the edge of the area after a corner 10 mins in, which settled my nerves. Richard Cadette, in his last game for us, slotted home shortly after the hour- I got threatened by a County fan for being exuberant in my celebration. The Wolves fans left with about 5 mins to go & I did a one man pitch invasion at the end (most of our fans were penned in at one of the ends), getting to shake Richard's hand and see close up just how imposing Big Roy & Dave Martin really were. Peter Johnson was really gracious in his appreciation of my enthusiasm. Oh yeah, my ex-missis was/is a Stockport fan so that added to the general jubilation- though we are still friends... football, eh, it just brings us together!

Stood on the South for this one.

Good memories of that match Tony, Chris Guthrie & Stuart Brace got the goals IIRC. We lost the replay 2-0 a few days later.

Remember that one myself, quite often got caught in the north bank crush as me and my mate often stood about 4 or 5 steps up from .
the bottom so we could see over the wall.
Two trips spring to mind for me, the first trip to Derby on the train which was too long for the platform at Southend central. I think British Rail found the oldest cattle truck they could find to herd us all up there, it stank of booze and stale urine, also the Liverpool replay just for the experience of standing on the Kop and listening to the Scoucers applauding our efforts.
