Gary McAllister

If he is suggesting that teams raise their games as they view playing Leeds as being in a cup final, then he is putting his club on a pedestal and mocking other teams as lower/inferior!

oooh, we are playing the Mighty Leeds, what a treat, it's our cup final!!

We put them on a pedestal just as much. There's no doubt that a match against Leeds is more eagerly anticipated by a majority of our supporters than most other games would be. There was a buzz around Roots Hall last night, and on here plenty of people were suggesting that they'd prefer to beat Leeds than even Colchester.

No he's not mocking other teams as inferior. Its like Telford raising their game against us next week. Its their Cup Final. Its the game that will attract more fans than any other game. As I said earlier, most teams will have their highest crowd against Leeds.

Also, ask any NON-diehard fan & most will say the Leeds game is a bigger game than the Col Ewe game. Think logically, until recently we were rarely played Col Ewe, this season they're low down in the League, Leeds were 2nd & USED to be a big club. They also have a reputation for playing excellent passing football, even if it had no end product last night :)!!

Telford are a few divisons lower than us, we are a bigger better team, it is a cup match and to Telford, it probably IS their cup final!! so bad anallagy really!

Leeds are in our division, we were playing a league game..If McAllister thinks teams in the same division view playing Leeds as their cup final, he is a very naive man!!

You obviously forgot about one of the worst performances in years against Bristol Rovers at the weekend.

With all due respect mate, you should change your name. Webby had a brain & you probably haven't as you've spouted a load of biased bollocks on this thread so far.
I think the stat that Hell & Back may not have mentioned is that all but one team had their highest attendance against Leeds last season. Also, cast your memory back to the pages given up on SZ to Leeds subjects last season e.g. 15 points deductions, promotion, play-offs etc. How many clubs can "attract" that kind of reaction? I include the Premiershite in that too.

Leeds are where they are for a reason we all know, they lost too many games & got relegated, just like we did. Leeds will go up eventually, probably this season, but on last nights showing, only if they get at least one decent wide player! After that, who knows. I guess they will go back up to the Prem, but only as a Bolton/Blackburn type club.

I do have a brain as it happens..everyone has an opinion, mine is that I don't think playing Leeds is ours, or anyone's cup final!! Not biased bollox at all, I just don't think that it is a cup final playing Leeds!!

That's like saying I think Southend United are the best team in the world, now that is biased bollox!!

Not really, it is still belittling your opponent. Until a couple years ago, we had never played Leeds.

Unfortunately, a lot pf people have an unreasonable hatred of Leeds, a bit like mine of Manure or Col Ewe, & this tends to cloud most peoples opinion. You obviously hate Leeds!

Saying a Cup Final is another way of saying raising their game. As I said, if you had the misfortune to watch the ****e performance on Saturday, you would feel p!ssed off that most of that team couldn't/wouldn't put in the performance they did last night. Why? They raised their game against the big boys of football, albeit only in stature, reputation & support.

Like it or not, historically leeds are a bigger team than us, and therefore it's always nice to win against them as we feel we're on the up (as well as them being on the way down), Mind you, I'd never admit leeds being bigger than us to the several people i know locally who support them.

Oooh, there's something, several people here support Leeds, who have always lived in South Wales. Bit random? How many locals support Southend? Only us immigrants!

At the moment Leeds are only just above us in the league. however, i dont think anybody can seriously claim that over the past 20, 10, even 5 years we're as big as them. Look at average attendances (I haven't) and I'll bet Leeds are top of League 1. hate to admit it, but currently they're bigger than us. Give them a few seasons at the lowerlevels, especially with other Yorkshire teams doing better, and maybe they'll become another Forrest/Leicester/Accrington Stanley, but for now, they ARE the big fish (historically) in this league and the team that others most want to beat (apart from local rivalries)

let's face it, do we have a "who would you rather beat, Bristol, or Colchester" thread?"

Don't hate Leeds at all, never have...just picked up on McAllisters comments, that's all....no big deal, I won't mention it again :stunned:

Ahem,  ..............

What a knob...reckons other teams playing leads treat it as a cup final.

Living in the past....Leeds were a big club once, now a L1 club like the rest of us.

I hate Leeds scum, and his comments sum it all up!!

How things can change in the space of six hours.....

Shall we let this one die a death until we next play you?

Can i clear something up before i go at no stage have i tried to be-little this league and i am convinced Macca hasn't either, sorry if it has seemed like that at any stage :peace:
If you would like to get your own back at perceived arrogance why not pledge some money to a very worthy charity and make a passionate and proud Leeds fan uncomfortable for a day.

So you're definately going through with it then Gareth ?? ... well played sir, i can't wait to see the photographic evidence plastered all over the pages of SZ :support: :support: :support:

I've got no problem with McAllister's comments and no complaints with toellandback's either. He's also been on this forum for a while and unlike some idiots from other clubs who come on to cause trouble and then bugger off he generally posts nothing but sense. I think clubs do raise their game slightly when it comes to playing Leeds compared to the likes of Cheltenham etc. However I would also suggest that a large part of the reason why is also because sides know that if they're off their games against the likes of Leeds they are going to get picked off quite easily whereas sometimes you can get away with a little complacency against lesser sides in League One. I also believe that shipping 4 goals on Saturday was very much a wake-up call and maybe Leeds got the backlash somewhat for that shocking display.

I personally have no real hatred for Leeds fans, I didn't like the way the club was run or the controversy that happened a couple of seasons back but you can't really blame the supporters for that can you. Invading the pitch on the last day against Ipswich(?) wasn't right but other than that I think the Leeds fans were as f***ed off with things as everyone else.

Good luck for the rest of the campaign toellandback, with any luck we'll be there with you in the shake-up come the end of the season.

Or in the next publication of The Square Ball, hey toellandback!!;)

I suppose McAllister has got a point really.
Take saturday for example, it's gonna be Colchester's cup final, them being a teeny weeny weedy club with not much support and the local rag that in the 90's didn't even bother to cover their games, and us being MASSIVE. Hope our players are well prepared.
