Funniest thing seen at a Southend game

Ref sending off Leo Roget (?) in a case of mistaken identity for, I think, Jeroem Boere. My memory is fading.

If you don't know those two players - google it

This article brings back some memories

It was actually worse than just mistaken identity, as the ref was booking Roget when the fight broke out in the box - why he sent him off is crazy

I recall a game against West Brom in the Peter Taylor era when we had a free kick on on the right hand side attacking the North Bank. 2 Southend players over the ball, first player dummied over the ball however the second player had also run off. So in effect both players ran away from the free kick to much hilarity from the massed ranks of the West Brom fans.

I *think* that was Steve Harkness and Andy Ansah. It ended up as a 'What Happened Next' clip on A Question Of Sport a couple of years afterwards....

our equaliser against Cardiff when a hopeless free kick from well inside our half bounced in off of Rhys Weston's arse will always raise a smile for me.

Whatever happened to The Brother's Grimm?
Alan and Peter both worked on the Waverley/Balmoral? boat that use to sail from the end of Southend Pier. Alan died of a heart attack a few years ago while working on the boat up in Scotland. Peter is still around and I am led to believe he is still working on the boats, well he was until bloody covid put a stop to life as we knew it. Peter lives in a flat on the London Road near to Hamlet Court but he no longer attends any matches at Roots Hall. I was also told many years ago that Alan had a season ticket for life which was due to all the work that he did for the original Supporters Club back in the day, something which I believe Peter did not have.

That said if I had soiled myself at a game I would make my excuses and leave rather than try and borrow some tracksuit bottoms.

The fact that the bloke in question was so desperate to watch a reserve game makes it even more bizarre.
Borrowed from Steve Tilson no less. I arrived a bit late for that reserve game to find Dave Scriven and Ninja practically crying with laughter ?

Carl Saunders of Bristol Rovers warming up along the touchline one night in the early 90's. The East Stand started singing "There's only one Billy Ocean" ! Priceless , even he saw the funny side

There was a photo from I think Macclesfield away some years ago where Zorro and some other bloke in fancy dress were obviously pleading with the police to go easy on Snow White who was in the process of being arrested.
I was there for that one too! Last game of the season away at Maccs and we’re all in fancy dress.

Drunk Snow White was being arrested for encroaching on the pitch while the seven dwarves stood by angrily protesting. I think Zorro still posts on here……

I bet Grumpy wasn't happy.

I am finding it mildly amusing at the moment numerous posters saying Martin out but then don’t want Collymore anywhere near the club with a consortium lol. I swear some of the people on here are just waiting for a Man City owner type person to want to buy us lol.

Maybe they feel Stan lacks the credentials to be involved with running a football club?

But we don't want the club being owned by anybody. They would still have to pass the league's fitness test ? No point jumping out of the fire pan and into the fire.

I thought Stan was a supporter of a fan owned/involved model. Hopefully he brings something like that to the table

The ref stopping the game in the 40th minute to come off and have a **** and the 4th official taking over. Phil Brown and their manager ****ing themselves on the touchline. Most non league thing I've ever seen. Must has seriously needed to go as couldn't wait 5 minutes until half time.

I trust the Protestors have an alternative to Ron Martin ? Economics is obviously not their forte !

I doubt they do but that shouldn't be a reason not to protest. We should all be trying to stick together here and actively encourage protesting (while maybe not wanted to actually do it ourselves!). It not like they are protesting for no reason - it's not been going well lately:Sad:. I actually found it made the atmosphere better and maybe that fed the players:Unsure:
