Freddy

Quote[/b] (Benfleet Blue @ Dec. 28 2006,18:03)]Lets just hope everyone gets off Freddys back. I must admit now that I'm totally fed up with all the gossip which has now culminated in even supposed SUFC supporters getting on the bandwagon and slating him.
I for one am pleased to have seen his explosion back into football, having witnessed so many goals he has scored over the past couple of seasons and will have, no matter what happens, many great memories of just how much he has give the team since the day he signed. The memories of his hat trick on his debut to the sight of Bristol City fans standing to applaud him when he scored the last goal of his hattrick on his birthday stands out amongst the many memorable goals.
He truly is a wonderful player and i personally have no doubt that he will succeed wherever he goes. He has natural ability and talent that I have not witnessed outside the premiership. He has served SUFC well, and even when sold, the club will capitalise on the investment that only he has built to the level it is on talent alone.
I don't, for one minute, believe he dons the SUFC shirt without caring or trying, and more renouned strikers than Freddy have gone through lean spells.
He seems to be a genuinely nice guy and all the gossip about drink and family problems, based upon speculation, quite truthfully sickens me. It's strange that when a lean spell hits that everyone speculates problems outside of football.
Whether Freddy be with us for 1 more game or the rest of the season, no one can begrudge him the chance of playing at a better level, and if offered the sort of salary that he should be on, how many others would turn their back on bettering themselves, for their own sake and for the sake of their families. Remember it was only a few years ago he was told at West Ham that he wasn't required, and to have bounced back and achieved what he has, with us as the witnesses, is truly fantastic.
Here, Here , Well said Freddy Snr, I mean Benfleet Blue!

Well said. I too wish people would leave Freddy alone rather than hound him out of the club

Benfleet Blue, I agree, I too am truly thankful for all that Freddy has done for our club since coming to us from Grays but using your reasoning that all players go through lean spells from time to time, for whatever reasons, and that supporters should 'get off the players back' as you put it we would never be right in criticising them when they don't particularly play well.
No one player is above criticism, Freddy included, and I think calling some of us that voice our opinions 'supposed SUFC' supporters is a tad over the top and unwarranted.
You ask any Southend supporter whether they appreciate all that Freddy has done for the club and I can guarantee that every one, bar none, will have nothing but praise for the lad and all he has done and achieved and wish him well for the rest of his career, wherever that may be.

You may not have been referring to my post. I'd like to think not as I don't see it as getting on his back or slating him in any way and you must surely realise that gossip about a players private life and off the field antics will never stop, especially when that player is going through a lean spell. It's part and parcel of being a professional footballer.

Quote[/b] (Norwichsufc @ Dec. 26 2006,17:59)]Just got back from the game.
The official line is a virus, un-official, a bust up with Tilly and he will be off loaded to Sunderland for £3m with Freddy on £10k a week
Does this story actually have any truth or substance or is it all hearsay and fabrication as usual ? . What was the bust up about ??, when did Sunderland make their offer?? as Tilly and Martin have both said no offers have been made and no calls recieved since the Man U game and how do you know the tranfer fee? and the finer details of the contract ?. I would have thought if you had heard all these facts that a journalist might have heard them too and put them in print. But there again Im sure you and the chatering classes know far more than the rest of the world. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.Mug.
No reply to my request for a source to this information. Obviously more wild bollocks. I hope Freddy plays Saturday, and fires in a goal. I think some of his problems this year have been due to the lack of good opportunities created by the team. He's not getting the service he had last year or the space.

D62SUBOY I would confirm that I didn't refer to your post when replying. I wholeheartedly agree that no player is beyond criticism, but to consider the service Freddy has given us since signing, I consider the criticism and gossipmongering by numerous parties to be beyond belief.
I would never refer to all supporters under the same banner as I myself am critical of players when they are below par.
The general criticism of Freddy goes way beyond that from some quarters.
I personally am resigned to the fact that we will lose Freddy in January, I certainly don't think any the less of him for wanting to better himself, and would hope that we can all keep an eye on wherever he chooses to go and hope that he never underachieves and reaches the heights we all anticipated he would. I'm confident he will succeed wherever he goes.
I only hope that we can uncover another 'Freddy' when he leaves.

I think its time that Freddy goes - he's not getting the service to him that he wants and he's not getting into the positions that we want him to be in and now he seems to be becoming a scapegoat from the fans. The reaction to his subsitution against Birmingham was, IMO, scandelous.

Plus, we're never going to get the sort of transfer fee for him that we could get now.

I was chatting to a Rangers fan about Scott McDonald and he sounds like a straight replacement for Eastwood - someone who does most of his work outside the box creating chances and scoring the odd 20 yard drive rather than the guy who is going to get on the end of things. If we can get him for a quarter of what we get for Freddy and can invest the rest on three or four new genuine Championship players then we might have a small chance of clawing ourselves out of this hole.
