Freddy

It could just be that as he was unwell before Birmingham (and had to come off) he still wasn't fit for today.

eastwood is goin to norwich and they paid extra to have him not play in the next two games!!
Earnshaw was on BBC Norfolk and said he wasn't going anywhere, and that he was happy at Norwich. In my opinion he's a good player, but not that special to have Premiership clubs after him.

Hope fred stays. Its a shame he can't make the best partnerships, where two players can threaten to score, as he is quite selfish, but he certainly scores the goals himself. I just wonder if he takes away quite a lot of goals from the rest of the team. To be honest, I'm no football expert, not at all. I'm just wondering if we could score more goals if he left and we got in a more of a team player with an eye for goal. It will be a very sad day if/when Eastwood comes to leave us, and I wish him the best of luck if he (ever

) does

Thats not exactly what Earnshaw said. When asked by the BBC reporter if any club was going to put an offer in for him in Jan he replied "I hope so", followed by a pause then " because that will mean I'm playing well". He then went on to add the obliguatory "I'm happy here", etc. The initial reply was quick and then he seemed to want to backtrack out of it a little.

The official line is a virus, un-official, a bust up with Tilly and he will be off loaded to Sunderland for £3m with Freddy on £10k a week
It's not that I'm saying this wouldn't be true but if I was going to make up a rumour, it would be along these lines. It's got typical tabloid journalistic inflation on wage and transfer fee and comes at a convenient time to link Fred to Norwich.

My gut feeling is growing that Freddy will still be here come the end of the season. I have heard from a very reliable source (that I'd prefer not to disclose) that the board has set a valuation of Freddy that they won't budge from.

Given the timing involved, any pre-signed agreement would have had to have been made on Christmas Day or Boxing Day which, given the bank holiday and general matchday action seems unlikely.

Further to this, and based on Ron Martin's general tendency to set targets and sights high, my guess is that their valuation IS somewhere around the £3m mark but I'm struggling to believe that anyone else's valuation could be around that without a reasonable expectation of Premiership football next year to buoy them.

With that combination of information and estimation, I think Fred may stay past January because of his poor recent form.

So Watford, Aston Villa, West Ham, Sunderland, Norwich all have 'confirmed deals' for Freddy

Mmm

So someone, somewhere is talking crap

I too can see Freddy being here after January. For whatever reasons his form this season has been well below par. Put that down to inexperience, lack of service/partnership, just not good enough (yet) etc etc I really can't see a smaller Premiership club putting in a £3m offer or indeed a larger Championship one for that matter. He has struggled all season to deal with the experience of the defenders in this league and as a lot of people have suggested in the past, perhaps this league was a step to far in such a short space of time and perhaps the same can be said of Freddy and he just isn't ready to make that step up to the next level.

On the flip side of that argument though, put him in a squad with a big, strong, experienced target man he can play off and he could well set the world alight. I'm sure that was the reason Ricketts was brought here.

I agree too. He will stay on until they get the right price. I can't see him going this season; Ron Martin would be mad to let him go with us fighting for our lives in The Championship. Plus I do think Freddy likes it at Southend, and he def wouldn't move away from his family.

Indeed. I think he'd do better in a team where he isn't perceived to be (or simply isn't) the only attacking threat.

The bottom line is, Freddy is actually good enough for this level. But for too long now he has believed his own hype and quite frankly played for himself, and for the big transfer that he obviously thought was enevitable, and forgot that what we really need him to be is the team player he was for most of last season, which is why he banged them in for fun.
I too think his form for this or whatever reason, has cost himself a good transfer and us as a club quite a bit of money on his eventual transfer.
All round, not a brilliant result.

I think Freddy has stayed with us a season too long for his development. He needs to play alongside better players in order to develop as a player and not pick up bad habits. Playing with the Goat last season was great for him, but it must be very frustrating this season as no-one makes the runs he wants them to make, or passes it where he wants it. Freddy has great attacking instincts - he gets a hell of a lot of stick from you lot for not getting into the box but how does he score most of his goals if its not by hanging back finding some space on the edge of the area?

Does this story actually have any truth or substance or is it all hearsay and fabrication as usual ? .    What was the bust up about ??,    when did Sunderland make their offer?? as Tilly and Martin have both said no offers have been made and no calls recieved since the Man U game and how do you know the tranfer fee? and the finer details of the contract ?.   I would have thought if you had heard all these facts that a journalist might have heard them too and put them in print. But there again Im sure you and the chatering classes know far more than the rest of the world. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.Mug.

That is very true, but I'd have thought that it wouldn't be too hard for him to do both (ie drop deep when the ball is first knocked forward looking for the knock-back from Bradbury, but get in the middle when the ball is out wide with Gower or Campbell-Ryce). When he first arrived here he combined the two roles, and don't forget that three of his first four goals here were from getting onto balls from outwide and finishing inside the six yard box. Nowadays he seems to want to only score the Hollywood goal.

I've never knocked the lad's effort or his commitment, but this part of his game really annoys me, particularly at the moment when we can't buy a goal.

Will freddy be playing on sat?
rock.gif
?

even though he hasn't played well at all the last few games i think we miss him and it really shows against norwich, i couldn't help but think that if he was there we may have won the game! the amount of space we had i think he would have done really well!

Lets just hope everyone gets off Freddys back. I must admit now that I'm totally fed up with all the gossip which has now culminated in even supposed SUFC supporters getting on the bandwagon and slating him.
I for one am pleased to have seen his explosion back into football, having witnessed so many goals he has scored over the past couple of seasons and will have, no matter what happens, many great memories of just how much he has give the team since the day he signed. The memories of his hat trick on his debut to the sight of Bristol City fans standing to applaud him when he scored the last goal of his hattrick on his birthday stands out amongst the many memorable goals.
He truly is a wonderful player and i personally have no doubt that he will succeed wherever he goes. He has natural ability and talent that I have not witnessed outside the premiership. He has served SUFC well, and even when sold, the club will capitalise on the investment that only he has built to the level it is on talent alone.
I don't, for one minute, believe he dons the SUFC shirt without caring or trying, and more renouned strikers than Freddy have gone through lean spells.
He seems to be a genuinely nice guy and all the gossip about drink and family problems, based upon speculation, quite truthfully sickens me. It's strange that when a lean spell hits that everyone speculates problems outside of football.
Whether Freddy be with us for 1 more game or the rest of the season, no one can begrudge him the chance of playing at a better level, and if offered the sort of salary that he should be on, how many others would turn their back on bettering themselves, for their own sake and for the sake of their families. Remember it was only a few years ago he was told at West Ham that he wasn't required, and to have bounced back and achieved what he has, with us as the witnesses, is truly fantastic.
