Stevenage were interested and nothing came of it.

Would a club really pay 4 grand a week for a player who hasnt played in two years and just getting over an injury ?

Freddy is a gamble now, thats one of things in our favour.
I do hope your right, and he signs for us and he turns into the player we all know he can be. I have to say though, if Freddy is such a gamble at 4 grand a week for someone else, he is also a gamble for Southend at say 2 to3k a week esp when we have another gamble in Barry Corr, and an ageing Harris, who is also prone to injuries.

100 grand for Freddie is a bargain, he could put that on the seats ads shirt sales; a good bonus/play/goals contract would work for all parties: and if he hasn't got the confidence to believe he can get a minimum of a goal every other start then maybe he isn't up for it.

I'm sure he would pull in the crowd - another 500 per game for 20 games at £15 a go gives the club another £150,000 income ......... but I would be worried if the "team" became a one man show and a significant disparity in the pay structure caused rifts ...........

........... having said that ......... come on Freddie - put pen to paper son!

He certainly is a gamble for us, but I dont think regarding fitness/injuries. He had the knee injury but that should hopefully be sorted now. The only gamble is whether he can perform and whats going for us is he has more chance of delivering for us at a lower level than he might have against better opposition.

I think he is less of a gamble for us than a league one side.

I would of hoped the club can get somewhere near this rumoured £2,000 a week.

As has been mentioned. I am sure there are 1 or 2 who are near that sort of mark already.

Would be a real shame to miss out on him, for what is not a huge wage in football terms. Then again, we don't want the club spending what It cannot afford.

Well paterson was supposed to be on like 2k pw and dicko like 1500pw and both have gone so i would expect that we can afford freddy

I'd discount shirt sales. Can't see that many extra buying a shirt because of him, and from what I remember we don't actually make any money from shirt sales. Unfortunately we're not Manchester United. As has been said, there's a decent chance of bringing in 200+ more on average per game (which I believe is more realistic than 500/game) which at £15 a pop is £3,000 per game or over 23 games £69,000, easily paying for him. Surely the entertainment he would bring, the financial bonuses he would likely bring, the high chance of being higher up the table with him than without him and the much increased chances of being in League One rather than League Two next season would mean that paying him £2,000 a week would be do-able? Plus, if he does do well then we've got a saleable asset on our hands. I'd be wary of going much above the 2k mark, but if the club/Ron can afford it, in a way we can't afford not to, these opportunities don't come around very often.

People won't come to see Freddy.

But they will come to see Freddy if he is banging in goals and we are near the top of the league. I don't suspect his signing alone will get more people in the crowd.
