In fairness to Chemico he is in the known I find normally when he says something. Amazing if we can get him.

My guess ( just guess without any back up knowledge etc ) is that Southend have told him what they are willing to pay in terms of wages and are happy for him to sign on those terms.
He ( or his agent or both ) are waiting to see if they get anything better offered from another team that suits his ambition / location etc.
I don't see that as a disloyal thing at all , just a fact of life that people will generally try to get the best deal they can

Certainly does know people and the fact he wants to sign, and is training with us is good news.

The key information missing though is Freddy willing to accept money we can afford. If not then doesnt matter how much he wants to be here.

Surely a contract with big incentives (large goal bonuses etc) would be fair for both parties.

Errrhhh - I've asked this question before - would you let Freddie train with the team if he wasn't going to sign?

...... I would cos Freddie is a hero ........... but that isn't necessarily how the club will see it ...........

So I would gain great hope if Freddie is in the photos of the '1st day back to training' photos ....... well, that is if he hasn't put a couple of stones on during summer ........:smiles:

I think that, quite rightly, goal bonuses have dropped out of the game - as they can encourage selfish play and are not in the best interests of teamwork.

The club obviously hope he will sign hence the training.

Players do often train with clubs they dont play for though to get fitness up and stay in shape, hopefully not the case with Freddy.

Then. Yes, I am aware of that - but you haven't answered the question - would the club let him train if he isn't likely/won't put pen to paper?

Give me strength ...............:winking:

they could be using training to temp him into signing
sort of a trial, show him what we offer etc

Easton trained with us for a while last season after we released him.

Certainly hope this is true. As others have said, if we can get him at up to 2k then I think he'll be worth every penny.

Just cant see this happening. He could get 3 to 4k a week from a div1 side, that is if there are clubs in for him, and i cant see why not, someone will have punt on him.

This is not straightforward.
If Freddy did not want to come and play for his home team again we would not in my view have a chance. none. No way is he a div 2 player- someone would take a punt on him in L1 and he would earn more money- then it would all be simple.
But he does want to play for us and so a compromise must be found (and I can fully understand that might take time and creativity). However, the hope is not only that he wants to sign but PS is canny enough to know under normal circustances there would be zero chance of getting a striker of Freddys quality to sign.
If it comes of i will be ecstatic- and we will know Freddy is here because he loves the club (and these days thats not so common). If it can't come off well at least I would hope its not for the want trying.
Fully fit, knee fixed I believe he is a better, stronger player probably than the one that left us. Hope to find out.

Stevenage were interested and nothing came of it.

Would a club really pay 4 grand a week for a player who hasnt played in two years and just getting over an injury ?

Freddy is a gamble now, thats one of things in our favour.
