Francis - what's up with him?

I wanted my own thread, so people could discuss Simon Francis' performance today, rather than over a period of time, or TEAM match reports and player ratings, needed specific Francis is toilet coverage

Ah well, it's done now. There's no reason why you can't discuss what you want to discuss in this thread though. It's still about whether Francis is or is not currently up to scratch.

I am talking about players like Maher, Bentley, Hunt, Jupp and Sodje.

I agree with that. I think we miss these kinds of players.

We need some dependable, whole hearted down to earth kinds of players in certain positions at the moment.

I'm going to keep banging on about it, but I think it's imperative that we get in some solid, unspectacular "League" players in January.

I really didn't think he did too bad today - ran his arse off racing back with their player three quarters the length of the field, only for Mildenhall then to throw it out to him when he was clearly knackered. Got some great crosses in too, why do we always have to blame our players ALL the time? All we need is a bit of luck and a lot of confidence both of which we've been short of for quite a while now.

For those trying to defend him today just remember the moment he let it go through his legs for their striker to miss from 6 yards.

No defending a professional like that.

Didn't look too happy as he left the ground tonight, head down, hood up - unlike the likes of Rev, Barrett, Barney and Macca, heads up and making eye contact, all quite happy to talk to the supporters around.

Francis' first job is to defend not to get good crosses in. Yes he is going forward but Hunt was slated on here for not getting forward but was a far beter defender. The mistake in the first half shouldve cost us a goal, he has cost us countless goals this season (along with the rest of the back 4). Dont care how good a crosser he is (and he isnt that good, most of his crosses today hit the first defender). Get in defenders who can DEFEND first and foremost. Let the wingers do the crossing.

I stick my neck out and say that in the 2nd half he was our MOM.

Agree he was poor and out of sorts again in 1st, but good reaction from what must have been said at HT.

Please get off his back, you are making matters far worse and I for one am keeping the faith with him.

Don't listen to the snipers Franno, many have probably never played a competitive ball game in their life, let alone know anything about football.

Its been said loads in this thread but i think its just purely because he has no natural competition for his position so he can be relaxed that if he fails to produce he is still going to be playing the next week.

It is the same in all 11 positions, so why the witchhunt ?

Interesting response by someone on 606 to criticism of Franno and well worth reading by those who question his commitment

I'm sorry but GAWAC has not said it all. In fact he's said nothing!

"No passion, no guts, no tactical awareness."
Francis was NOT out of position when they scored. He'd moved across as any full back should in that situation.Their attack was wide down our left. I was in the West Stand and saw him look back to see his man hugging the touchline with Betsy nowhere. You could see the look on his face! He almost got back to him, but was too late. But where was the cover? Don't blame Francis.Tactically, he was correct and you are wrong!

Did you see Francis (again) chasing back to the byline to disposses their forward, before receiving a poor throw out from Mildenhall which he had to chase to the halfway line before winning another tackle. So, 50 yard sprint, tackle won, 50 yard sprint, another tackle won. And all of this in the 90th minute while we're chasing the game. No passion? What the hell do you want.

Now, you tell us all what you want. Well I'll tell you what we need, and that's for 'fans' like you to either shut up or get behind the team. What we don't need is ignorant criticism.

Agreed. Good post. If any blame needs attaching it should go to Betsey. From the West we could clearly see that his only contribution was to point at players from his safe position somewhere near the centre of the field, leaving it to Frances to handle 2 players. His cover for Frances was appalling.
