Francis Laurent

Tilly and brush haven't quite managed to succeed in tactically developing talented players previously, but as usual it looks like they've learnt and it's getting the best out of laurent.

We might have a small squad, but there is a **** load of ability and talent in it

I think the reason people like Hooper didn't develop as they could have done is due to squad size. We had palyers that were better than him but not good enough to carry a developing player.

When Freddy signed we didn't have many options upfront and now we have very few players we are having to play Laurent and he is getting the game time he needs to improve.

I don't think T&B are bad at developing talent, they just don't have the option to play a player who is only developing. We haven't got the greatest players in the world and if one member of the team isn't quite up to scratch (Hooper, Laurent when he started) then it makes us weaker. However, at the moment we don't really have a choice and this is definitely helping Laurent!

Although Hooper did well on all his loans and was an instant success at Scunthorpe. If he was developed enough for them he should have been good enough for us.

I think its less about him not developing and more about us not playing in a way that allowed him to shine....

and when you see the highlights you can really appreciate how he tore them apart - AND scored a really good goal -

put two on a plate for Barney .... unbelievable !!

And one for Macca of course, well he has to open his account for the season some time, oh and consider that the Col Ewe game could be his last game at Roots Hall. If all this comes to pass we could win 3-0. UTB.

Don't know if anyone else has thought or mentioned this but aside from the questions over his final ball or his finishing at times, I think he's really got something of the Collymore's about him.

That backing off of defenders as he runs at them, not knowing which way he's going or how they're going to stop him. You can see the fear in them just as you could with Stan. Obviously Stan was a better finisher and more consistent but if Laurent can sharpen up those parts of his game he could be a stunning centre forward. The kind that doesn't need much of a service because he'll pick the ball up deep & just run at the defence scaring the living daylights out of them.

He's already improved massively since he first arrived & If he keeps developing at the same rate he could go alot further than Barney in this game.

I think he'll need to do some work like Barney did over the summer, on toughening up a bit. With his skills, it's natural that he'll be a target for those who will kick out at him rather than play him. He's had a few problems with his lower legs already, especially his ankles.
