Ref Watch ... Franchise Friday

Why 4 mins added on at the end of 1st half but only 3 at the end of 90 mins ?

Blimey Ken you should change your username to Mystic Mcnasty. I can't recall any injuries in the first half. Yet in the second there were 4 subs and at least one injury break. Yet as Mick rightly says we won in the time Deadman added on.

The ref ruined what was a good game inbetween all the whistling and yellow cards.

He'd booked far too many players in the first half, which meant in the second half both teams didn't fancy making too many tackles in the 2nd half in fear of a red card.

Not overly sure about the penalty, I certainly didn't appeal for it in the East Reds, but the guy was a clown. Whistle, card, free kick, whistle, card, free kick. Ruined.

Mick, what about the thing with their player with the nose bleed, where he could clearly walk and get himself off the pitch but instead sank to the floor? What is the correct thing to do there? It looked completely farcical.

What about our bloke when he went down with a head injury? Mildy went wild at the lino and the ref, why didn't Deadman stop the game for him? The guy had clearly lost the plot, as he did with most of his cards. Could have been a very entertaining game if it had not been for him. Still we won, and deservedly, we got the 3 points and that is important. UTB.

Don't think it was deliberate. "hitting his hand and preventing us getting possession" is not one of the criteria for a free-kick for handball.

Deadman's shocking display was everything I expected.

By far the worst decision (and there were plenty to choose from) was when he stopped play late in the game to give MK Dons a free-kick when they had two players breaking on the half way line against very limited defence. He then realised he'd already cautioned Christophe and didn't show the card he clearly intended.

An abject performance and, for once, I think overall we got the better of his dreadful decisions.

Not taking issue with you Mick , rather seeking clarification, but if in so doing advantage is denied - does that fall within the criteria?

Well it was right in front of us in the SU, we all went up as one & I personally thought it was nailed on. I thought the guy was all over him & then pulled & pushed him as the ball came in. What you said in your next post agreed with my impression, in that the AR influenced Brain Dead Man to give it, though I didn't see him give any signal with his flag. Presumably he mumbled something incoherent into his mike.

The offside against Barnard from the Freedman pass looks correct on BW. It's marginal from the angle of the camera, but it's a pretty decent view & probably one of the better decisions in the game.

As for added on time. The MK lad took at least 4 minutes looking for his nose. Laurent was down for at least 2 minutes. There were several substitutions. But undoubtedly the 3+ a bit that he added were exactly right to the millisecond! :)

4 mins would have included the 7 bookings at 30 secs per card. There should have been more then 3 mins at the end of the 2nd half, couple of injuries, 3 (?) subs, 2 more bookings. Should have been at least 4 mins added on....

Being fair and balanced aren't 2 of my stronger suits tbh but looked a nailed on Pen from the back of the Family Stand .. thought the ref took an age to point to the spot and certainly the latest in a long line of idiot Linos gave nothing from what i could see

I think Deadman took his time giving it as he wasn't sure which offence to give it for, the tug on Barnys shorts or the attempt to rip the shirt off Laurents back. I think he was also hoping that the lino would support him, it would have been a real travesty had it not been given, it certainly was nailed on. I would certainly have glady accepted a contraversial penalty at that stage of the game (for us of course) but in my opinion there was nothing contoversial about it, i saw 2 offences, the guy behind me says he saw 3.

i still don't see where 8/9 yellow cards came from, the ref was and idiot for 92 minutes, he was great in the 93rd. UTB.

You could see that he wasn't talking to the referee through his mouthpiece from the back of the Family Stand (ie behind the back of his head) ???

Certainly looked like Deadman didn't make an instant decision but maybe reached concensus after a quick word with said lino.

I thought the correct procedure was for the lino to put his flag across his chest, which he didn't. No need to speak to the ref about it, unless he wanted to clarify something.

The lino bottled it but fortunately the ref, after about 3 hours, gave it.

It was definitely a pen, I was level with it (as was the lino) and he clearly pulled JFC back.

A lino will only do that if he is 100% certain and has a much better view than the referee. The referee would have instructed him accordingly. When doubt exists, and to be fair I think there was some doubt, a quick word with the lino is the way to go; that's why they have the technology.
