Films you've watched recently.

L'Avventura (1961)
Antonioni film about a girl who disappears on a boat trip off the coast of Italy, except it ends up not really being about her disappearance at all. Not a lot happens - I'm usually OK with that, but at two and a half hours long the sections where the least is happening becomes a bit of a test after a while. That said it's beautifully shot, and Monica Vitti is utterly mesmerising. 6.5/10

You might want to check out Antonioni's The Passenger with Jack Nickolson, including scenes filmed in Barcelona

I've hammered the old limitless membership at Odeon lately so here are my quick reviews:

The Festival: overall pretty weak but watchable and a few moments where you giggle, Jermaine Clement as the step dad claims the funniest parts 5.5/10

Jurassic World: Thought it was better than the last film, not amazing plot wise but the effects are as you'd expect from this franchise 6.5/10

The first Purge: exactly the same as the others, ok if you like that kind of thing 5/10

Equalizer 2: Pretty much what Taken 2 is to Taken. Very similar films I find them enjoyable and like Denzel/Neeson. 6.5/10

Mission impossible fallout: Wasn't a fan of this, not sure why I watched it as I haven't liked any Tom Cruise films for the last 25 years. 4/10

Coming up: I'm watching Yardie on Thursday in an advance screening which looks great from the trailer, hopefully it lives up to my expectations. Also the trailers for Operation Finale look very good, that one is out next month about Adolf Eichmann and how he was brought to trail in Israel after escaping to Argentina, with Ben Kingsley as Eichmann

You may be getting plenty of time in the flicks but it does seem that you are force
Feeding yourself with some average or worse films. However thank you for some titles that I know to avoid.

Yep I am, but I'm sure i'll get some decent ones soon. I live 5 mins walk form the odeon so if I'm at a loose end of an evening its very easy to just walk over and watch a film. The air con was great when we had the hot spell too haha

Man on a ledge. I missed this first time out (2012) and only came across it as a trailer on a DVD. Ex Cop is on a hotel ledge threatening suicide, female police psychologist has the job of talking him down. Is he for real or is there something else going on? Cracking crime drama 8/10

Bone Tomahawk on Film 4 the other night. I like a good western as I like a good horror. Combined into this pile of garbage - it was just that :Thumbs down:

Yardie - 7.5/10
Saw an advanced preview of this one, it's out Friday. Absolutely brilliant visually and musically for 80's London and Kingston. The story wasn't the best but still enjoyable enough. Feels a bit rushed, should have been a longer film IMO with more detail and certainly more of Stephen Graham as Rico. Definitely worth a watch, not as good as I thought it would be from the trailer but still a decent film.

Summer Birds.(Pajaros de Verano)-A Colombian film that did well at Cannes and is Colombia's entry for next year's Oscar as best foreign filmWorth looking out for when it gets a UK release.Tell the story of an indigenous family whose lives are ruined by drug (marijuana) wars in Columbia.

Upgrade - the hero is badly injured in a car crash and his wife shot dead. He ends up as a quadriplegic until a billionaire offers him his latest chip implant. Set in the future, lots of twists, scares and some severe violence complete with an unexpected ending, well it was for me. Thoroughly enjoyable, 8/10.

BlacKKKlansman
Was actually quite funny in a "look at these stupid rednecks" way, enjoyed it. A very easy watch with a few laughs then a very serious anti Trump message at the end, which strangely works IMO. solid 7.5/10

The Purge; Election Year. Not as horrific as I'd hoped. Some decent set-pieces but not much tension or character development. 5/10.

Saw Escobar: Paradise Lost (Paraiso Perdido) on DVD lat night. It's a gripping account with the always excellent Benicio Del Toro at PE and also Josh Hutcherson, who will be known to some-not me-from The Hunger Games.Good 2015 film which really deserves a wider audience.
