Memory Lane Favourite Southend landmark - past or present.

One of my favourite buildings is the Kursaal, being 29 I obviously don't remember it before it changed in to a housing estate but have heard the stories and seen the pictures of its theme park heydays. I'd love for it to be used and used well again, it's such a shame to see the Old Girl going to waste.

The Kursal was a great place to be at as a kid. My mum used to work on the Caterpillar ride and I remember having to go to work with her when I was small which was brilliant as I knew all the people who operated the rides and used to go on them all. Ah happy days.

My hang around area as a kid (when I wasn't at Boarding School) was the Kursal

My Parents owned a few of the drinking clubs around the seafront way ...and I loved the Old Kursal...Tip the lady out of Bed, The Bugger can't remember the name of the ride but ( a wall where you stuck to it and the floor disappeared)..And of course Yvonne Stag and her wall of death motorbike ride.

Another building I like is Southchurch Hall. I like this pic of what it may have looked like

The Penny Farthing was where my DJ ventures started....I was 16 and fibbed about my age and was a cloakroom attendant.....Dick aka the Rocking Goose was there at the time ..and I just filled in before he started work and from then on worked with him through the Alpha Two. Talk of The South...Tots and many other venues about Southend..He of course now owns Dick Devignes in the high street.

What years though mate ?? (talking Penny Farthing here) I'm thinking you may know someone i know

Obscure or what !!!!!!!

Cool pic Al ... that'd be York Road coming towards us then .. i didn't spot any brasses in that shot though

No it would not be as the Sea is South in that picture.York road would be on a right angle to it.
