Morecambe vs Southend FA Cup

Day before a game and I can't see a pre match thread.

The players will be travelling to the game by train and PB seems to think, according to today's echo, we can do it in 3 hours there, 3 hours back. I think this train is more like a rocket!

Lots of options going in to this one, a nice headache for PB. Straker and Timlin both grabbed their opportunity last week.

Obviously one change will need to be made for the suspended Clifford, I'd bring Laird in for a straight swap.

Bentley

Leonard White Prosser Coker

Atkinson Laird Timlin

Hurst Corr Straker

Laird not quite ready to start I wouldn't think, so as follows:

Bentley

White
Kiernan
Prosser
Coker

Atkinson
Leonard
Timlin

Hurst
Corr
Straker

But I would say Leonard as arguably been our best player in midfield this season.

Thats a fair point and I agree he has played well in the centre of the midfield so far this season. Just thought he looked alot more natural at right back last Friday evening. Also thought he offered more of an attacking threat than White.

Yes I agree , he did offer a bit more attacking threat.
Don't see Brown dropping captain though and think Leonards energy in the centre has been a real positive this season.
Now that we have Kiernan , I think that apart from someone up front banging in the goals on a regular basis , we look to have quite a strong sguad , especially in midfield.
Will be interesting to see what side Brown picks tomorrow.

Why change what worked? (except the red card). A draw and a replay will be ok so just BBC up top and same again please. maybe start with Payne in 5 man midfield and then give Laird last 30 mins if anyone is tired/injured or close to suffering a red card. We will have options on the bench this way to.

What do you want ?

Went away last weekend and we won 3-0, going away this weekend too ... another 3-0 win please Southend!!

About time we beat these Northern Monkeys,2-0 being my prediction cheered on by 220 Shrimpers.:loyalsupporter:

For god's sake, Sampson, why couldn't you score wonder goals like that for us? And in the last minute as well. :'(

I'd leave Leonard at right back. If that means dropping the skipper then so be it. Play your players in their best positions.
No way would I drop White, he looked very composed in the middle last week, and if Prosser is a risk then I'd go with White and Kiernan in the middle of defence. If Pross is ok, then the skip gets his RB place back and Lenny goes back into midfield. I think people under-value White sometimes, such a composed player.

Dont care who starts/finishes/scores etc just want to beat them, and beat them good !!

I'll settle quite happily for a scrappy 1 goal win!

Morecambe V Southend United - FA Cup 1st Round

09/11/2013 - Morecambe (A)
By The Seaside...

Saturday 9th November sees Blues make the 281 mile journey up to Morecambe for the FA Cup 1st Round. One thing us Shrimpers should be wary of is that striker Jack Redshaw returned from injury last week, coming on in the 86th minute against Burton Albion. So its likely he'll be pushing for a start. However, he is yet to score for the Shrimps this season having bagged a total of 16 goals last season.

As most Blues fans are aware, Morecambe are our Bogey Team, in our 7 meetings, we have never managed a win. Last season, Morecambe did the double over us, first, at The Globe Arena, winning 1-0, with the before-mentioned Redshaw grabbing an 88th minute winner, on a day we couldn't even manage to get one shot on target. In the reverse fixture at Roots Hall on the final day of the season, The Shrimps again won 1-0, with Paul Fleming scoring after the more comfortable time of 34 minutes.

Earlier this season, Blues slumped to a disappoiting 3-1 home defeat to The Shrimps.

Morecambe's Last 5 Results:

Burton Albion (A) - W 1-0 - Williams
Accrington Stanley (H) - L 1-2 - Sampson
Cheltenham Town (A) - L 0-3
AFC Wimbledon (H) - D 1-1 - Ellison
Bury FC (A) - W 2-0 - Williams, Diagne

Out of 7 home games they have played this season Morecambe have:

Won: 3
Drawn: 3
Lost: 1

Home Form - Extras

The Shrimps have scored 13 Goals at home and have conceded 10 goals at home. Interestingly, they have only kept 1 clean sheet in the process

How the teams lined up (Last Meeting):

Morecambe's Likely Line Up:

Barry Roche - Giant Dublin-born 'keeper who signed a new 2 year contract in the summer, to the delight of the Morecambe fans. He joined The Shrimps in the close season of 2009, after deciding to leave Chesterfield. Was an ever-present in the Chesterfield side for two seasons, bar the odd game. Barry has won the club's player-of-the-season award two years running. Has so far played in every game for Morecambe this season, which makes him the 'keeper responsible for keeping only 1 clean sheet at The Globe Arena.

Robbie Threlfall - Former Liverpool trainee who won the FA Youth Cup 2 seasons in a row with The Reds. Made one senior appearance for the Merseysiders, a pre-season friendly against Wrexham. Had loan spells at Hereford United, Stockport County, Northampton Town & Bradford City before being released by Liverpool and joining Bradford permanently where he stayed until 2012, after which he signed for Morecambe.

Mark Hughes - Club captain started his career at Everton where he made one first team appearance before being loaned out to Stockport County. Everton the sold him to Northampton for an undisclosed fee where he played 93 games, scoring 4 goals. After came a 26-game-long stint at League One side Walsall, where he scored 1 goal. After rejecting a new contract at The Saddlers, Hughes moved to Australia to play for North Queensland Fury, for whom he scored 4 goals in 30 appearances before moving back to England to play for Bury (and a short loan at Accrington Stanley) before signing for The Shrimps. He has made 13 appearances so far this season scoring 2 goals.

Tony Diagne - 23 year old French defender who started his career in the youth team at Nottingham Forest before moving back to his native country France to play for his hometown team Aubervilliers. He then returned to England, spending 2 years at Macclesfield Town (and a 7-game-long loan at Lincoln City, in which he scored 2 goals). Diagne then moved to Morecambe in June this year and has so far made 17 appearances, scoring 1 goal.

Andy Parrish - Young, versatile defender who can play in a variety of positions. Joined The Shrimps from Bury in 2008 and has since made 190 appearances for The Shrimps, 18 of those coming this season. Parrish has only scored 1 goal for Morecambe.

Marcus Marshall - Well-travelled winger who begun his career at Blackburn Rovers, but never played for the first team. While at Blackburn, he was loaned out to Rotherham United where he made 23 appearances but didn't score. The then-Millers' boss Ronnie Moore was impressed by Marshall, and so he signed him on a permanent basis, making 51 Millers appearances, scoring 4 goals before joining Macclesfield Town on loan, where he made 14 appearances, scoring a solitary goal. Marshall then signed for Bury, where he made 9 appearances (and had 2 unsuccessful loan spells at Grimsby Town) before signing for Morecambe earlier this year.

Andrew Wright - Born in Merseyside, Wright started his career at Liverpool before being released and going to university in America where he joined Cape Cod Crusaders in 2007, before returning to England to play for Scunthorpe where he scored no goals. The Iron then twice loaned him out to Grimsby where he scored 2 goals over a total of 13 games. Scunny then released Wright and he signed for Morecambe in 2012. He is yet to score for The Shrimps.

Ryan Williams - 22 year old midfielder who can play on the left or in the middle. Begun his career at Chester City in 2008 where he didn't make a single first team appearance. He then moved to Colwyn Bay, where he made ten starts, scoring once. Llandudno was his next club, where he scored roughly a goal every other game, scoring 7 in 16. Williams then moved to Rhyl, where he scored 16 goals in 35 games. Morecambe then snatched the young midfielder up, and he has scored 3 for them so far, most notably the great free-kick against Wolves in the Capital One Cup.

Jack Sampson - Coming through the Wigan Athletic academy, Sampson, a former Blues player begun his career at Bolton Wanderers. He was loaned out to Blues, where he had an unsuccessful spell, playing 9 and scoring none. Bolton then loaned him out to Accrington Stanley, where he played 5 and once again, scored none. He was finally released by Wanderers and signed for the Shrimps earlier this year.

Jack Redshaw - The young striker started his career at Manchester City, where, unsurprisingly he made no starts, and obviously scored none.City released him, and he stayed up north, signing for Rochdale, scoring none in 3 games. A short spell at Salford City was ruined by injury. Altrincham were the next club on his list, where he averaged just over a goal-a-game, scoring 8 in 15 games. After attending an Altrincham match, Shrimps boss Jim Bentley made note of Redshaw and snapped him up not long after. He has since become a firm fan-favourite, scoring a total of 18 goals in 66 appearances. However, due to injury, he is yet to score for Morecambe this season.

Padraig Amond - 25 year old striker begun his career at Shamrock Rovers, scoring 15 goals in 62 appearances. He was sent out on loan to Kildare County where he scored 5 in 13. Sligo Rovers then snapped him up, where he managed an impressive 17 goals in 27 games. While playing for them, he caught the attention of Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal. He failed to score for them in 17 games. Pacos loaned him to Accrington Stanley where he only managed 7 goals in 42 games. Stanley then snapped him up permanently and he scored 9 goals in 36. He left Stanley and went on trial with Morecambe, who were impressed and secured his services for the new season.

This is going to be a tough game and Morecambe are a strong attacking side with plently of talent at their disposal. Jim Bentley will once again want to get the better of Blues. Lets hope we prove him wrong.

Players To Watch:

Barry Roche
Kevin Ellison - Will probably be on the bench for tomorrow (or today, depending on when you read this)
Jack Sampson
Jack Redshaw
