This None fella has been scoring for us for a long time.

It is remarkable how often there are ties against clubs we played in the competition in the near past. In the early 60s we were paired with Watford four times in six years. (That 2-1 win against them at home in 1965 with Eddie Firmani getting a double is a special memory).
But we also seem to attract ties against Yeovil, Barnsley, Millwall, and Liverpool.
If history is to repeat itself, what price the draw tonight throwing up Chesterfield or Barnsley or Boreham Wood? Would hate to be drawn away at any of them. Plucky Chesham put paid to Yeovil on Saturday, thank goodness!

Fantastic research thank you and lots of memories. My favourite cup years were 74/75 and 75/76 seasons . A great match at home v QPR in the third round with 18,000 at Roots Hall I seem to recall. Also the year after where in beating Brighton and Cardiff at home in the third and fourth rounds we narrowly lost to a very strong Div 1 Derby team . Roots Hall was really rocking for those 3 cup matches…

Ah! remember them games like yesterday, loved the QPR game 2 nil down to a talented side and the Roots Hall roar as we pegged them back to 2-2 and that late winner against Cardiff, marvellous 👍

We would have beaten QPR because we had them on the ropes!
However, Frank McLintock did a version of the keeper-going-down thing, and took sting out of the momentum.
He later told me just that!

That QPR team was terrific too. I saw them a few times that season (including our FAC game) and they were great to watch.
Also recall Dave Elliott saying in the Echo on the Monday, how late on one of ours was brought down in the area, can't recall who, might even have been Dave himself, the Ref went to blow for a penalty but dropped the whistle and after picking it up just played on! 🫣

How on earth would you get from Southend to Carlisle in 1907.
"Let the train take the strain", although how long it would have taken? Having said that we are talking about a time when Railways were run more efficiently, more train availability and more lines to run on. I did it a few years back by train, took about 6 hours, wouldn't surprise me if it took much longer back then!

apparently it was 8-10 hours from London-Carlisle in 1907.
