And if not, we'll need a new right-back - Lee Badbuy is playing there for Bournemouth if that counts, if not one of Austin, Edwards or Poole who were all around £350,000 to £450,000.

Jonathan Hunt moved to Sheff Utd for close to a million, so should displace Mike Marsh (unless one of Marsh's other moves was more).

If we need a sub bench, Paul Williams was another who cost a million. God knows how as he was crap.

I just worked out that at the old exchange rate of £1 > 480 Italian Lira that the sum ^^^ would be about £20,000 and being honest i'd be surprised if Soares was worth a quarter of that amount :raspberry:

Ok, taking this thread down a slightly different road, as suggested above, let's see how good a team we can compile based on transfer fees that SUFC received for the nominated player. So Collymore is in because Forest paid us over £2m, but Bradbury isn't as his £m transfer didn't involve SUFC.

As some people have pointed out, some of our players from days gone by went for big amounts for their time, but let's try and keep this to actual money paid, even if it does work against the old timers.

Next step after that will be to nominate the XI for whom we paid the most, although I fear that may be a depressing experience.

Anyway, I'll kick things off for the 'XI for whom Southend received most money'
