Yes however Barnsley were smart enough to negotiate their own sell-on, which is exactly why we should have snapped QPR's hands-off in the summer. We won't be able to do that now and therefore we'll only likely get around 10% of any future sale as decided by tribunal. Big mistake not allowing Bentley to join QPR for such a good deal.

We shall see. There has been loads of posts as to why we will get more than you say....Previous offers, amount of games he has played etc. I'm sure Ron and his staff now how many beans make five.

The mysteries of Southend United Football Club !

Cash strapped and alway's pleading poverty, but are still able to refuse over 1 million quid and in addition sign expensive players.

:dim:

Not sure why that would be better, don't they have a decent couple of keepers at the moment?

If he goes to any of the teams mentioned, he'll likely be loaned out (he's not good enough to be any of those teams No.1), so therefore they will all provide the same opportunity won't they?
Norwich are hardly a "shoe in" to be a Premiership club next season and Ruddy may well be on his way anyway whatever division they're in due to footballing and/or off-field problems. That only leaves Rudd who is still relatively inexperienced.

I've always rated Martinez as being a first class manager. Although he is Spanish by birth, he really understands the British mentality towards football and speaks football tongue fluently. They would be mad to get rid of him, but we are talking Premiership here and a new owner. Back to the Bentley rumour, Tim Howard is now 37, not exactly old for a keeper but maybe someone like Daniel would be good for them at this time. £2m would be a steal for a Prem club like them.:winking:

Is all very well understanding the game - but Everton have again under achieved. I like Martinez but I feel he has the same mentality that David Moyes had at The Toffees - they accept mediocrity and do not appear to be in the slightest bit concerned about it. Always average Everton FC.
However, would be a great opportunity for a keeper who has served us well.

Good luck to Dan if he can get to Everton. However I don't feel he has come on at all this season. The QPR non deal did him a big favour as he would had splinters by now warming the bench. He needs to be careful what he wishes for.

But that's not what I said Kevin. I said:

Everton have existed for years with Bill Kenwright chairing the club and bankrolling it as well as he could. Both Moyes and then Martinez have done as well as they could on limited resources and they were never going to compete at the very top without a very big infusion of dosh. They now have that in the form of Farhad Moshiri. Maybe give Martinez the opportunity to prove what he can really do with a bit of financial muscle? You may not agree but it's all about opinions, and this is mine.

Whilst he was in charge at Everton he hardly spent any money, so I wouldn't call that underachieving.

Well, they won absolutely nothing and came near to winning absolutely zero. He has since joined clubs that "demand" more than average. So they both sacked him. Now Martinez has some of the finest youngsters in the country but - unlike Pochettino - he is appears completely unconcerned that those young prospects (to me Ross Barkley could is potentially the England leader for a decade or more to come) are delivery mediocrity too!
I hope Dan receives an opportunity in the Prem and Everton are a fine club. They just need a manager who does not accept bloody average.

You can't compare Moyes and Martinez. Moyes did fantastically well with little or no money to spend. Martinez has spent a tidy sum including 28 mill on Lakaku. Everton are massively underachieving. You will find very few evertonians wanting Martinez anywhere near the club in the summer and especially anywhere near the new investment money.

Exactly this, they have a brilliant young squad, but not the manger to lead them. I'm pretty certain Everton will be looking fir better than Bentley come the summer

But remember when Stoke bought Butland and City bought Hart they were both loaned out. It would do him the world of good to be at a Premiership club with better facilities and coaching. And whilst at Everton he could attract interest from better clubs looking to loan him.

Whilst good coaching helps, I think playing is more important and he's not going to be getting played unless he's out on loan and if he's loaned out he's not going to benefit from the better facilities and coaching.

With Bentley, Ted Smith and the other one in the England u15s we seem to be doing ok with the coaching anyway.

more speculation, but honestly will Dan be in the stakes for a 1st team start ahead of John Ruddy and Declan Rudd ?

other clubs in for him are:

Bournemouth - will he oust Adam Federici?
Everton - Robles + whoever else their new Billionaire owners bring in...
Watford - Gomes, another decent solid keeper with good premier Lge form...
WBA - Ben Foster, can't see Dan getting picked ahead of him either..

wherever young Dan goes I think he'll be in for a long spell on the bench,

Still think he'll end up at a top end Championship side, likes of Leeds, Brighton, or Villa...

My mate is a Leeds fan, based up north. He knows that Leeds are very keen on Dan. The question mark is - who will be in charge at Elland Road in the summer?

Federici isn't even Bournemouth's first choice, Boruc is.

I don't think it makes it a bad move for Bentley if he isn't thrown straight into the starting 11 of a Premier League team. All of the keepers you mention there are either getting quite old or aren't that good so if Bentley reaches his potential he could easily take their place in the next couple of years. Even if he joins a Premier League club and goes out on loan it could be a good move, it certainly didn't do Jack Butland any harm at Stoke.
