European Athletics Championships

Gold & Silver for Mo Farah & Chris Thompson in the 10000 metres. Farah totally dominant and a great finish by Thompson from a long way back to grab the silver.

Gutted to have missed that last night, but there will be nothing stopping me from being in front of my telly at 9:45 tonight (8:45 UK time) for the 100m final.

Michael Rimmer just won his heat to qualify for the 800m semi-finals. Good lad.

Incidentally, I read the other day that the Euros are now moving to a two-year cycle, meaning the next one will be 2012, just before the Olympics. Utter madness. Charles van Commenee has already said that GB won't be sending any of their senior athletes and I am sure many other countries will adopt the same attitude.

Farah also won the 10k BUPA challenge, which Bob Cratchitt and ldnfatso participated in. I think Mo did it in 27 minutes.

Make sure you watch on friday night, hopefully my mate Will Sharman will be in the 110m finals.

That's potty, the Euro's were briefly held every two years, but as one of the years was invariably an Olympic year it was changed to every 4 years. They should stay as they are, they can't go to "uneven" years as they will then clash with the world championships.

This looks like it could be a very successful championships for Great Britain, I'll be glued to the 100m tonight, although IMO Chambers shouldn't be there, but I guess he's done his time.

Any word on what's happening with the cheating 800m runner? (Basically cut a corner and made a Irish bloke go from first to fourth. First time I've felt sorry for a Irishman in a long time).

Well I had a feeling Chambers wouldn't win but I fully expected him to get a medal. It was obviously very close, but hopefully this might encourage Mark Lewis-Francis to push on and see if he can fill some of the potential he had as a teenager. Although I am not holding my breath.

To be fair to Chambers, 2nd, 3rd and 4th all were given the same time 10.18. Got to say the french guy is going to get a lot quicker especially once his technique gets up to scratch.

He's good to watch too, lovely style to him, although it's difficult to see him getting near the likes of Bolt, Gay and Powell.

Great drama in the women's long jump as well, with Ineta Radevica and Naide Gomes having the same best jump and Radevica winning it on the basis of a better second-longest jump.

I'm not going to send any links and it may not be an idea to do so at work, but a google image search for Radevica is well worth it

I can't say I was broken hearted about Chambers being beaten, IMO he should have been given a life ban for his self confessed cheating. I can't help feeling the BBC team are very prissy where Chambers is concerned, I am sure if he'd been Russian/American or any other nationality they would be shouting from the roof tops, cheat and he should not be allowed to compete with "clean" athletes.

Well he's through to the semis....just. Third in his heat, just 0.01 ahead of fourth. He will need to up his game considerably if he's to get in the medals (and I hope he does!). Good showing by the other Brit, Andy Turner, winning his heat very easily.

Yep he was pretty poor, couldn't accelerate after hitting the first.
Andy Turner looked excellent.

Although in the final heat, the Hungarian bloke Daniel Kiss (great name!) looked even better. He's the one to beat now.

I reckon if Idowu didn't wander around looking like a walking scrapyard he'd jump over 18 metres.

Nice Bronze for Matyn Bernard in the High Jump. And there's some good medal prospects today, plus Jessica Ennis starting her challenge for the Heptathlon Gold.

Lovely pic of Jess there H

Martyn Bernard's bronze was a nice little bonus for us - he was seventh in the betting for gold at 66/1 - and I'm very much liking the look of the medal table right now.

It's been a rotten comp for the hosts so far, but I think Spain will shoot up the medal table today, with the favourites in the women's steeplechase and the men's 1,500m. In terms of the latter, here's hoping Andy Baddeley ****es on their bonfire.
