Essex Cricket 2024

Bit like the pointless nations league football.
The Nations League though was an improvement on what it replaced (which was completely meaningless friendlies littered with substitutions).

Cricket needs to ditch the bilateral ODI and T20 series and instead have a proper league system for each format, playing each team over the league cycle.

Since 2009 we’ve played Australia 133 times and Zimbabwe 0.

We know Cook and Porter are good in those conditions. The story for me was Pepper, Critchley and Harmer hanging in there. Those two wickets between them put on more than Warwickshire’s first innings. For Pepper in particular to be part of both partnerships is really encouraging. He’s had a really solid season

Hopefully he’ll go onto fulfil his destiny to open for England (with Phil Salt).

If it weren't for the bat thing we'd be in thr title race, just. But we're not because we let Worcester beat us at home in one we should have won comfortably. That's on us. Plus money bags Surrey are just a level above

In other news Kent have been relegated to Division Two
Watched a bit of their game yesterday. Was at my daughters graduation in Canterbury and stopped at a cafe for lunch. As it happens it backed onto their ground so I had a nice bit of cricket to watch over lunch and witnessed a wicket falling. Must get to watch Essex as I never have and always aimed to!!

Do you know any names?

I imagine Rossington is one, Khushi another. I expected Browne to go but he has a testimonial year in 2025.

County cricket in a tricky place right now. Lots of mid 20s cricketers have retired this week across the circuit. With money tightening in the county game, and cost of living continuing to go up, it's no surprise to see the depth fall out clubs. Even lower paying jobs likely pay more than being a back-up player at Essex, especially if players can then get paid to play club cricket at weekends.
