Well after backing the scummers i'm sure you are quite happy about it

We've just lost our first wicket of the morning, Phillips for 12 and i think thats curtains now, Masters CAN bat and indeed has a first class century to his name but he'd be at 10 or 11 for virtually every county and the fact he's in at 9 here doesn't bode well .. Chambers is pretty rabbit like and if we need a 17 year old on debut to see us home then we are indeed in the land of miracles

Over to you Fozzie, no pressure son

A truly shocking performance from Essex. Darren ****ing Stevens? Darren ****ing Stevens? How the **** can you get skittled by a dibbly-dobbly bowler like Darren ****ing Stevens? He makes David Masters look express. It's not as if he made up for it by bowling some tight lines and making the batsman play as, at least on Saturday, he was "probing" away two foot outside off or down legside most of the time. Fosters' innings put the pitch and Kent's pedestrian attack into context.

Thought Topley showed good promise, getting a nice shape on the ball, swinging it into the right-handers. At only 17 he looks a real prospect. Will be interesting to see what we do with him next week when Lopsy arrives. Personally I'd drop Phillips who bowled 2 overs of utter filth in the second innings. Tsotsobe will hopefully offer some control as despite bowling some testing deliveries the runs flowed rather easily off Chambers and Topley at times.

After such a disastrous opening i felt it neccessary to edit the thread title lest YBs optimism comes back to royally bite him on the arse come seasons end

By the way, how do we want to play it this year? Keep one thread for all Essex CCC matches, or have separate ones for each match? Or maybe separate threads for County Championship, One Day and T20, with a general one for transfers, club news, etc?

I think one Essex thread personally as match discussions tend to meld into latest gossip/news ones etc before returning to the match in progress

I'll add a poll to gauge reaction anyway ...

Agreed, the previous thread lasted long enough with match stuff, gossip and general chat.

Boys taking on Middlesex at Lords, 1 change to the side that lost against Kent, Wright comes in for Phillips.

Essex won the toss and elected to field- Middx 8/0

Masters picks up 2 in 5 balls and all of a sudden it's 115/4

edit - make that 115/5, Topley's taken another one

Calyspo-collapso as three top order wickets fall for 0 runs:loyalsupporter:

Excellent stuff from Masters & Topley - 0/3 including the dangerous Malan.

Looks like it might be another low-scoring wicket-fest, with Middlesex boasting Collymore, Murtagh (*) and Finn...

(*who rejoices in the quite excellent nickname, "Dial M" - :hilarious: )
