Essex CCC 2017

Lawrence out for 2.

The only reason of thinking is that they will hang on for Chopra's 100.

And he did!!

We finally declared! Essex 542-3 (296 ahead).

I guess they have one eye on Chopra getting some pitch time in, as he'll be opening for Cooky after this match.

Fair enough declaration in the end, though I think we missed a trick on getting Middlesex out there for longer tonight after a long day in the field and under lights, as well.

About 5 overs left?

Get a wicker or two. Other games look like they'll either be rained out (Hampshire & Yorkshire) or conclude to a draw (Lancashire) which is beneficial to us.

12 overs at them tonight, so a couple of bites with the new ball and a chance for a second new ball in the last session tomorrow.

As much as we were all calling a declaration. it sadly proved fruitless. Obviously hindsight is a beautiful thing, but does anyone regret us not finishing the day batting instead of bowling? putting in an ever bigger lead and putting their opening batsman(s) under huge pressure to produce a big run chase.

I think we called it about right. Middlesex are out of the game. They can't win. So I guess the thinking was that a big enough lead means we can have close fielders in all day today and not worry about leaking runs, which will suit Harmer as the ball gets a bit older.

It's a flat wicket and obviously not as used as last week against Warwickshire and not as dry either.

The key is if Mohammed Amir can swing it around in the first session.

Really weird, in the semi final v Notts, his bowling was awlful and I believe cost Essex the match, so glad he has turned things around, need to winkle this stand out, looking comfortable after the collapse

Come on Essex

Indeed. We talked before the season on here about getting a good spinner. Makes the team so much better balanced.

Stirling just dropped at short leg!

Just wondering we have hit 400 runs plus in a day with overs left still. Just wondering if Yorkshire will come to a deal with Surrey and both declaring giving Yorkshire one day to get 490 runs ?
Any thoughts on this?

400 runs in a day is nothing.

Essex bowl the Australians out in a day

Second catch put down!

:'(

50 overs left.

Whilst we might not have taken a wicket with the new ball last night that declaration could yet be important as it gives us the chance to have a go at them with a new ball this evening.

I think this was is slipping away from us though. Would love to be proved wrong though.

C'mon Essex!
