Lawrence was looking good until a good judged Finn catch over his shoulder

When you face 34 balls in t20 I expect more than 36 return and a SR of 105. Too many of our players take too long to play themselves in and leave those down the order with too much to do, I sometimes despair when Napier and Foster finally get in and have to score at 18+ an over. Our batting line up is so rigid, players like that should be brought up the order if we are behind the RR because they can get us back in the game when we require 12 an over

I thought the chase was well paced.

The limited overs matches we've lost have tended to be where we've lost wickets rather than scored too slowly.

That said I don't think we've quite got the balance right at the top of the order yet. In this respect maybe we are missing Pettini?

I'm not sure I agree the chase was well paced, it took an exceptional effort from Zaidi to pull us back 59 off 24. But at the end of the day we won so cant complain too much, think the other batsman owe Zaidi though.

Yes but I think that is down to us giving the lower order too much to do. If Ryder doesn't come off pretty much everyone else plays themselves in and too many are scoring slowly and getting out before they have caught up, then we have decent batsmen like Napier and Foster chasing 18 an over and having to hit out at everything, wickets are bound to fall. I don't think the order is bad if things go to plan but we stick to it so rigidly like in the Sussex game when we were getting further and further behind the RRR and Taylor went in before Napier!? There have been instances with Velani this season as well coming in we need 12 an over, slowing the scoring and getting out leaving Fossie and Napier chasing 18 an over. It really frustrates me.

Certainly agree we are missing Pettini.

You must have despaired at the Middlesx opener then !!!

Though I agree we don't make it easy !!

I think we are missing an out and out top quality opener (esp in the shorter format)! That's why Solanki came and went, Browne has come and gone and conme back again! Ravi has even been tried out! Getting Chopra back would be a big bonus! Lawrence is excellent for a 19yo and Westley is very good too!

I thought Lawrence was an excellent foil the other night, his innings kept us in the game and allowed for our hitters to give us a chance. His SR was higher before Zaidi come in and was unable to run the quick twos. Malan scored at a similar rate and if Middlesex had hitters down the order they would've had far too many on a tough pitch. Thankfully they didn't have those players to come in like we did.

So we made it through to the quarter finals of the one day cup (thanks to the rain or not).. anyway a tough match against Warwickshire is up next. Feeling quietly confident, but not overly, if i'm honest.

We are still in all three competitions so Silverwood deserves some credit. Is it me or have we made it hard for ourselves though?
What are the chances of us having Cook back after the 4th test against Pakistan? Will he play or be rested? Think it could be the difference between us winning div 2 or not

Think the English weather will play a big part as well, lady luck has been on our side last two games with rain.
Warwicks is winnable match, seen them a couple of times and like us can be good or just plain awlful

Silverwood deserves massive credit for what he has done Top of the league, in both one day quarters, most Eagle fans would have laughed at the suggestion come start of the season, rumours of Essex demise was greatly overstated

Fancy us in 50 over format more than T 20 to reach a final

After today's draw against Sussex, we are back at the top of the table by a single point and a match in hand over Kent.

It was also good to see Graham Napier take 5 wickets and make 124 runs in his farewell appearance at Castle Park.

162 for Notts. Generally good bowling apart from them taking on the young Walter. Fielding probably lost us a dozen runs but some brilliant catching. That total doesn't ensure us a victory but it does give us a pretty good chance........better than I thought we had. Take it calmly Essex, don't blow it in the power play.
