Post-Match Thread and Ratings England v Slovenia 20hr ko 25th June 2024

What has their salary packet go to do with anything? Such an easy thing to throw at top flight players.

Having high salaries didn’t stop Argentina winning the last World Cup, or Italy winning the last Euros. They weren’t on minimum wage.
Of course, the argument that they're overpaid is simply tripe. They could all refuse to play if they wanted to do, and the fact that they're very well paid means that they're not there for the money. They're there because they want to be and want to win.

Dare I say it on SZ these days, but arguing that they're overpaid is also a very right wing attitude. Football is one of the few industries that pays its employees what they are worth. Marx would be proud.
