England V Brazil

I refer you to post 59 on the England V Ireland thread.:raspberry:

Yes, you even got that wrong as well!

I notice only one person correctly predicted a draw and nobody (including your good self) forecast it would be 2-2.

However having said that, it would be churlish not to admit that England fully deserved their draw on the strength of their second half performance.

I hear Brazil are not doing well at the moment so a possible 0-0?

Brazil aren't that good, will more than likely be a goal in it or a draw.

Hopefully that'll be the last we see of Glen Johnson.

I thought Carrick played well and the Ox was impressive when he came on (which probably justifies keeping him as a sub for the future).

Lampard looked completely knackered and although Rooney's goal was excellent he only got into the game when given an attacking midfielder to work with.

Theo was dire.

Carrick doesn't look the part to me and will give way to Gerrard or Wilshire.Otherwise you're right.

It makes you realise just how good Gary Neville was. Surely we have a decent RB somewhere?

Carrick isn't translating Prem form into international quality, but I have faith he will. The Ox is superb - as is the Roonster. He played his role well.

Lamps is on way out I think - Wilshere to replace him.

Theo was OK, could have scored. But I thought Milner was worse. I just can't see the appeal in him.

Carrick in general keeps possession and can make forward passes. Carrick is also great at intercepting. Gerrard is vastly overrated, and is one of the key reasons why we don't keep the ball.

Michael Carrick: Played more forward passes (1024) than any other player in Europe's top 5 leagues this season

I agree that Carrick hasn't replicated his PL form yet for England. However if we want to aspire to be a decent top 10 country, then we need midfielders who can help dominate games and Carrick is that man.

Theo should have scored. He was also massively wasteful in the first half. I'm not a huge Milner fan either.

Thank god someone else can see this. Can be great on his day, has a great engine, but tries these silly passes which we ultimately lose possession and we're back to square one. Carrick has the ability to not only keep it simple but to pick out some great passes.

I may have on occasion pointed it out during/after an England game as well.

I don't really get all the Carrick worship. He had a good season for Man U but his role in this side is as a 'steady Eddie' type of player and not one who will dominate and win you games. There is a lot of talk (and I'm sure the statistics will buttress his devotees' arguments) of his much-vaunted passing, but I have seen quite a few stray ones from him and I look forward to having more likely match-winning central midfielders in Wilshere and Gerrard back in the side for the qualifiers.

A three man midfield of Carrick Lampard and Wilshere would be decent. Gerrard is another overrated england player, hard to remember his last decent game. The Montenegro match summed it up with him being awful and Lampard sat on the bench until it was too late.

Roy will always play people like Milner because they are players who fit his 'must not lose' style, rather than show any attacking flair. Walcott has been dining out on that Croatia hat trick for far too long. If he wasnt playing for Arsenal he'd be nowhere near the squad. Hodgson is doing the traditional england manager failing of picking the best players not the best team.

Hang on you criticise him for picking the functional Milner and then almost in the same breath criticise him for picking the best players rather than the best team.

Which do you want?

If Walcott lost his pace he'd be nowhere near the squad. The other option for a bit of pace is Aaron Lennon. What's happened to him?

Agree with your first paragraph though.
