England in Australia .. One Day Series

The fact that Ausralia have a genuine allrounder in Shane Watson gives them that added depth. If Flintoff were fit for one last hurrah and we had him coming in at 7 and bowling 10 overs it would completely change the dynamic of the team. As it is, we are going to have to go in with pretty much the basic 5 batters, 1 keeper and 5 bowlers, unless they strengthen the batting and try fiddling 10 overs out of Colly, Wright and KP.........

Most sides have a a genuine all rounder, Kallis, Bravo, Pathan, Watson, Razzaq and even Vettori, Prior will be England's this time.
The biggest loss to England in ODI's has been Marcus Trescothick, we've just never replaced him at the top of the order, and as a consequence never seem to make the most of the early power play overs.

I feel its the reliance on Prior to be the allrounder that shows why we will be effectively be playing with a man less than other top sides you mention above......Haddin, Dhoni, Akmal, De Villiers will all be keeping for their sides but are all better (to varying degrees) than Prior batting in ODI's, plus they all have an additional allrounder.....

I like the idea of Prior coming in at 7 and think he'd be highly successful in the later overs, he's simply not good enough to open

Oh dear see Prior got ousted early again today.

Just watched Luke Wright bowl an over of absolute tosh, all short and on leg stump.

How on earth is he still in the side, he's been around for a while now and not really made any mark.

Lost game again.

Just shows you that missing your 3 best bowlers in Anderson, Broad & Swann really does hamper your chances.

If anyone cares about this OD series, we're about to win. Trott hit 102 in our total of 299 and Australia are 217/7 with Trott taking 2-31 in 7 overs!

Much happier with this line-up. We're batting a lot deeper with Collingwood at 7 and Yardy at 8 and I don't think we lose much (if anything) in the bowling having Collingwood bowl Tredwell's overs.

It's not ideal having Trott having to bowl so much, but my concerns are about his lack of experience and practice, not his lack of ability with the ball. England need to develop him in this role, so now (well not at the death, but this match) is the time to bowl him. Whilst his bowling is bits and pieces, he's not a bits and pieces cricketer as he's a genuine batsman worth his place in the team as a batsman* who does some bits and pieces bowling on the side. This is the route England need to go down to get balance in one-day cricket rather than picking bits and pieces players (like Hastings appears to be for Australia).

*I don't think there's room for all three of Strauss, Trott and Bell but Trott has topped my list out of these three for some time for the reasons we saw today: he's the one most likely to score a century. Along with Capey he's the most List A hundreds in this England batting line-up from far fewer innings than either Strauss or Bell.

Much better from England today, but with the score at 200/4 with 15 overs including power play overs to go on a good pitch should have got more than 299. And the old failings over part time "spinners" seem to be returning.
