Echo - Tilson in for Clarke?

Would still like to see him here however my biggest fear would be getting him on a 3 year contact on big wages and then wasting it like Ricketts and having to pay him off at the end.

In his defence when he first came his attitude was spot on. Recall reading somewhere that he loved the seafront and could see himself setting down here.

Obviously things changed somewhere along the line but I still think he is a class act if we can get the best out if him.

given a choice between a the potential of Leon Clarke and the known quantity of Byfield or any other over 25 got to go with Leon -

Leon, Walker and Barney - would get us up ......

Perhaps it's just me but having read the article, I can't see any more in it than just speculation to fill newspapers in what Tilly says is a quiet time.
He hasn't spoken to Leon since the end of the season. 'At the end of the day.........' perhaps that should read 'If all else fails' Tilly wouldn't want exclude any options.....quite right too! He has a list of eight or nine players....certainly doesn't state that Leon is included.........could be wrong but personally, I'd be surprised to see Leon in a Southend shirt next season. Nevertheless good fodder for the newspapers and SZ

at the end of the day he is probably fully aware his attitude stank, so Im sure in any deal Tilly/Ron would make it absolutely clear that won't tolorated..
But then if he signs and gets the ump and sulks we can hardly sack him on the grounds of being lazy.

I dont think we can afford to gamble a big wage on a bloke who has already let us down once.

when did Tes last score 8 in 16 for anyone?!

2000-01 he had a spell of 6 in 9
2001-02 he had a spell of 8 in 13
2002-03 he had a spell of 7 in 15 (and 8 in 18)
2003-04 he had a spell of 6 in 13

He never did it over a season, but then has Clarke?

That was the problem with bramble he only played well in patches!

Clarke is much better than Tes its just his attitude is all wrong.

And when in his nomadic career has Clarke demonstrated consistency?

Tes had the ability, he didn't have the attitude/intelligence.

I think you are all missing a valueable point. How on earth would we find a pair of shorts big enough for him once he comes back from his hols? Hang on a minute Im sure there are a pair of Michael Rickets still hanging around?

I think the stuff about his attitude on the pitch gets overstated. By all accounts his performance up at Doncaster was shameful and rightfully should be kept in mind but I think it would be unfair not to acknowledge that that was a one-off. He isn't the most mobile or hard-working player but for most of his time here he was used as a targetman trying to create chances for the hapless Charlie MacDonald and Gary Hooper. It was a roll that he said he didn't enjoy but he got on with it and did it well.

Must have been the only one he didnt enjoy looking at the size of him!

It wasn't just that he didn't "turn up" at Donny no-one really did that day, it was also the fact he threw a major wobbler when he was subsituted and stormed off down the tunnel!

I think ultimately we have to trust Tilly on this issue. After all, it was he who pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute - and at the time it was a very brave decision considering Leon's scoring record.

If Tilly has clear-the-air talks with Leon (if he hasn't already, which has been suggested) and Leon genuinely wants to atone for his behaviour and knuckle down in a Blues shirt for a sensible price and wage, I'd be happy for him to return. He did look a class act, not just in his goalscoring but also his ability to bring other people into play. I think he and Barnard could potentially be an excellent partnership.

could see us buying him from wednesday and offering a 1year contract on a fairly good wage with an extension option if we want. he's no mug and won't take a stupidly massive wage cut i don't think, but i think he wants to get playing and get his value up as he is a class act. we can't break the bank for him cos it's a gamble, but i think if we can get him fired up then he could definitely be a 20goal a season player and the ideal foil for barney

This is much, much better in that respect:

If we were to get him, I'd definitely give him another chance.. but im sure his attitude will go one day and my opinion will shoot down again..
