Did a good job in difficult circumstances and is good squad player. My only concern is that we have 3 fairly defensive minded midfielders in Grant Easton and Ferdinand. Sawyer has yet to show the promise of his first visit. Only hall shows any real intent going foward.

I would say we need an attacking midfielder and another winger as a priority and if eastons wages are preventing that then we have more than enough cover in his position.

Im not saying i want him to go but its a bit of balancing act with regards to getting a team on the right budget.

I think the "concerns" over the treatment are a little unnecessary. Just because we have offered him a lower deal, should not be determined as us treating him harshly. This is a business and this club, to get back on a even keel, must be treated as such. Therefore, if the player budget doesnt allow him the same wage we had to pay last year, because we was desperate for players, I applaud the Club for acting in this way. The Club is bigger than the player.

This is in no way meant as being disrespectful to Easton, as you will see my thoughts on him earlier on this thread, just on the case of the way the Club have come to this business decision.

We cannot any longer afford to be held to ransom by players when it comes to wage demands.

Exactly - its actually great news that the club hierachy is now seeing sense and not paying out silly money for players. Easton did a great job last season, but reality is we have to lower the wage bill.

I dont think its disrespectful for the job he has done, nor a reflection on his worth to the side. I'm sure there will be a queue for his services if he does decide to leave.

I think in the situation we was in last summer. We probably paid "a little over the odds" for some of the players to come here. We was in a desperate state. Now, we are in a much better position and centre midfield in particular is well covered.

Quite a few of the squad have had to have a reduction in wages I believe. That's sensible practice and I'm glad the club are implementing this at long last.

Easty has been a great character and captain and I am sure he will be missed. But, we cannot have the luxury of several players going for one position. So we need to offload or agree reduced terms.

If Craig does not want the offer on the table, that's fair enough (I think most of us would be ****ed at getting a wage reduction) and I wish him all the best wherever he goes. He's a model pro and will be a great capture for someone.

Treating him fairly in this context I think means being open with him.

There's nothing wrong with offering him a contract on less money than he was on last year as long as we've been up front with him about this so to give him the opportunity to look elsewhere.

Along with others on here will be sad to see Easton go, if indeed he does.

Personally I thought he was one of those players who you didn't notice until he wasn't there. You suddenly had this feeling that some things weren't being done in the mid-field and then you realised who had been doing them, not the player to set the world alight but the type of player that every team needs so that others can. Good captain, on and off the field.

The fact that he may have been offered less in wages I don't see as an insult but more the reality of the situation. If he is able to negotiate a better deal that suits him elsewhere then good luck to him and he goes with my thanks to a good pro, he is certainly doing no different than you or I would, we all look for the best deal, be that a job or buying a car; that's the way of the world. He hasn't been one of those players who has agitated to fabricate a move for his own ends like some we could all mention, he has stayed until his contract is up and then it is for both parties to negotiate a fresh one if they can, if not then that's life.

errr because he was told to give us an answer by close of business last night, no news anywhere that he has signed

Just because we haven't heard anything doesn't mean he has rejected a loan deal.....unless you know something we don't? Any way, the 48 hour thing came from the echo didn't it....the worst paper in the entire world.

In regards to N'Diaye I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. Would be sad to see Easton go as he has been great both on and off the pitch. However, I wouldn't see it affecting us to much if he was to go elsewhere.
