Eastwood has your view changed?

You obviously didnt read my previous posts then did you. I do think Freddy is a good player at this level and am delighted he is here, you wont find many bigger Eastwood fans than me.

Ill reply to yours, and this applies to James' also.

To say he is the best player in the bottom two divisions when he hasnt shown any form in over two years at any level is a bold statement. Izale Macleod scored in excess of 20 goals last season for Barnet, thats one player who has delivered more than Freddy.

He certainly showed last season glimpses of his quality, his control and vision even though he didnt score loads showed he has the ability at times.

However what is missing at this point in time is any sort of form or consistency which obviously is due to fitness, only when he gets fit and produces performances on a regular basis can we make claims he is the best player in the bottom two divisions.

To simply say he is still the best player in two divisions because 6 years ago he was amazing is absurd.

Fair enough points. But goal scoring record doesn't actually prove to you who is a better player in a division.

Your tone is hilarious you are actually making me feel like the only opinion in the world that matters is your own.

A goal scoring record is evidence that the player has provided consistent performances.

Eastwood hasnt provided any evidence other than glimpses. Get him fit and he will stand out in this team Im sure of it, but he has it all to prove still that he can get to being the best player in the division.

I truly aplogise for my tone, I know that you dont like anyone disagreeing with you.

Notice I only said this division, not the one above too! Regardless of recent history I still regard him to be the most naturally gifted player in League 2. League 1 is another matter though.

No your statement was slightly less bold

For what its worth I think when fit he will show that quality as long as he then stays fit, and we show conviction in our "improved" style of play not to boot the ball towards him 15 feet in the air.

Maybe then he can again be the best player in the league !

I dont think Freddy is near to the player he was, certainly not the best striker in this league. Last season he wasted so many chances he wouldve buried in his heyday. We used to expect him to score now we kinda hope more than expect. Think Tomlin could be a good foil for him in the way Gray was but he needs to get himself fit and sharp. Also hope that Hall stays and that Spicer starts to show some good play to create goals for him as I dont think he can shimmy past 3 or 4 defenders and fire one in the bottom corner like he used to.

Yeah I see where you're coming from! Just for me, when it comes to Fred, form is temporary and class is permanent. That's what I was getting at. Just because I think he's the most technically gifted player in L2, doesn't mean I think he's the best performing player at a given moment in time. They're two separate things.

Yep, goal scoring is evidence but isn't proof.

LOL! HAHAHHA! You are brilliant.

I don't mind if anyone disagrees with me at all. You do know that you Mr Jam Man Of All Wisdom are not correct about every point you've ever made don't you? I'm sure you do because you seem to write your posts with a great amount of intellect. Your persuasive tone that you write in would have served Old Adolf well! :winking:

To me he is a hero. He has come back against all odds and he doesn't have to prove much to me, doesn't mean he doesn't have to actually give me end product. But some subjects have a necessity to remain level headed about. Freddy Eastwood is not one of these subjects.

I am a massive Freddy fan, always have been and took my son to his first game before he was ready simply because Freddy signed on loan. If his shirt wasnt action man size he would have Eastwood on his back.

He is the classiest player I have seen at the club since Collymore, and as he was with us for 3 years rather than Collymore's brief spell I hold him above Collymore. However that doesnt mean to say I cant look at if from a pragmatic viewpoint.

Eastwood has ability, he already displayed that at times on loan, however with the time out of the game I can still look at it realistically and see that he still has to regain fitness and then consistent form before he can be classed as the best player in this division.

I also see people dismiss him already and state he will never be any good are also doing it based on little evidence.

The reality is somewhere in between, and my opinion is closer to the 'being great' than 'being finished' viewpoint.

Freddy has the potential to get back to being a quality player for this club, doubt he will get to where he was as he has changed, but with his technical ability, vision and hopefully eye for goal he can make the difference, but thats still to be proved over time.

Oh and as for alway being correct about everything, of course Im not. Probably.

That bit there....that's the answer. He will not be the same player he was, but equally it is ridiculous to suggest he can't do a job at this level.

As with most discussions on this board there is no black or white - the answer fades to grey as Visage would say. Those expecting Fred to single handedly transform us into a Title Winning side are likely to be disappointed....but that's not to say he can't provide us with some happy moments as the season unfolds.

Purely from a footballing perspective he's way down the list of the divisions incoming strikers for the new season (I'd much rather have Odejayi, Nardiello, Richards, Parkin or Clarkson for example) but that is not to say I am not excited by his return.

Like everyone i hoped he would be the Freddy of old. Sure, he shows the touch of a great player but i feel there are two problems. Firstly, Freddy is older, bulkier and slower than before. Secondly, he is living on being our Superstar from a while back and can do no wrong in our eyes.

Unfortunately, he either stays as our Superstar and goes out on a high or he will be remembered for trying to do it again but failing.

I do hope its the former though!

AS Norwich says its not Black or White.

If he is half the player he was he will still be better than most.

Just because he may not score 20+ goals and be the player he was 5 years ago doesnt mean he isnt worth having.

If he were to score 15 goals he would still be a success but some seem to think unless he does what he did last time its not good enough.
