Eastwood has your view changed?

You make some decent points..and the majority of the pollsters agree with you.

The worry I have? All those who are really confident about Freddy finding form...well they can only be using memories from years ago. There is nothing else whatsoever to suggest Freddy will ever be fit enough or good enough.

...and there's nothing to suggest he won't be, beyond the knee operation he had in the summer. I didn't see any of the pre season games but a few have remarked that he's looked quite sharp. I've never bought into this fat Freddy thing, I'm fat, Eastwood isn't. And lastly given the clubs impecunious finances I doubt if they would have invested ina 2 year deal if there was a major problem over his long term fitness.

Which begs the question- why wasn't he brought on for the last 10/15 mins? If he was able to play against spurs why did he not play on Saturday ?

He is injured, allegedly.

As I'm not Sturrock I can't answer whether or not he genuinely has got a calf strain or the manager doesn't see him as 'match fit'

Why are you worried about other people? They aren't worried about you.

Eastwood looked fine against Spurs. Fit and eager to shoot (something that he didn't seem last season). Give him some service and he'll be fine.

Where did I say I was worried about anybody? I said "the worry"...which is for my club and the goalscoring options we have.
Beefy, I know you worry about how important you think you are at Southend United and how many people believe it!

I am not going to argue anymore against a Southend United hero (not you...Freddy) and we will see who is proved correct.
I hope it is you...but have my doubts!

I think Sturrock would just be open and say that he isn't match fit. Why wouldn't he? I'm sure he's done it before. He's quite an open manager I always think, speaks the truth!

You said that your worry is that the people who think he'll score goals have nothing to base that on (which isn't true anyway, but regardless). I don't see why that should be a worry of yours.

Seems like there's more than enough things in the real world to be worried about than worrying about whether some faceless people behind computer keyboards might be slightly let down by a guy scoring 10 goals instead of 15.

Again..I hope you are correct.

10? Wow...I will be delighted if Freddy gets 10. I really will.

There is as much evidence of Eastwood doing the business for us as any other player.

At least Freddy has in the past done it.

There are no guarantees he will get any where back to where he was when last here and its unlikely he will do so, but Id still rather have him in front of the two who started on Saturday. I know which of all of our strikers I would have liked to have the ball in the last minute when Tomlin scuffed it lamely off the pitch....

From what I heard Eastwood was our best player against Peterborough?

Eastwood v Peterborough certainly looked like he was up for it and his quality was evident. He is injured, its frustrating, give him time.

No, lets write him off because he missed a game.

Dont understand the negativity around Freddy, we all know he hasnt played regularly and wasnt fit but people seem to be using the fact he isnt as good as he was as something to criticise him for. We know he isnt, if he was he wouldnt have come back. So he isnt good enough for Coventry, so what, we arent Coventry.

If he can get match fit he will still be a very good player at this level.

If Freddy was as good as he used to be, there wouldn't have been a snowball in Hell's chance of us getting him back.

Disagree.

I think he is a better all round player than he used to be.

He wasn't as fit as he used to be, and maybe his style has changed, but there is no doubt he is the best player in this league and probably the league above.

Let's see him bang in a few and see the opinions change.

Not sure where all the negativity on Eastwood is, he's looked sharper in pre season an one of our better players. He's only got a calf strain let's give the guy a chance to actually play before we decide.

This however is a ludicrous statement to make! On what basis have you made this decision?!

Really ?

Thats some bold statement for a player who hasnt played in either league in years.

He isnt anything until he actually delivers some performances. Freddy is potential at the moment, lets hope he meets some of that potential.

What about Izale Mcleod who scored bagfuls for one of the worst teams in the league for example ?

Yes, really.

Freddy Eastwood has a proven goal scoring record at this level, the level above, the level above that and then at international level. Leonard is potential. A young unproved player has potential, not sure a proven goal scorer has potential surely they are just good?

I'd like to see a shrimperzone.com dictionary written up!

The negativity on this website even towards one of our greatest ever heroes and legends is becoming unbearable for me!

Also disagree. You can see that he is head and shoulders above anyone in this squad and most likely anyone in this division. His first touch, close ball control, movement, vision and passing is still Championship quality IMO. What has been in question is his fitness, attitude and application, and ability to live outside of Essex. Those questions are what has brought him back here.

Just because he doesn't score as often as he used to, doesn't mean he's a worse player. He's a DIFFERENT player, better all-round as OBD put it. A lot of his goals last time round came from a degree of selfishness and being unaware of where his team mates were, meaning he'd have a go himself 9 tines out of 10. That has been coached out of him - he drops deeper, holds the ball up, sees what's around him and brings others into play as opposed to get the ball, turn to goal, run and shoot which is what he used to do. Neil Harris told me last season that Freddy is a different player and is unlikely to get you 25 goals a season now but when he's fit, he will play a major quality role in our build-up play in the final third of the pitch.

You obviously didnt read my previous posts then did you. I do think Freddy is a good player at this level and am delighted he is here, you wont find many bigger Eastwood fans than me.

Ill reply to yours, and this applies to James' also.

To say he is the best player in the bottom two divisions when he hasnt shown any form in over two years at any level is a bold statement. Izale Macleod scored in excess of 20 goals last season for Barnet, thats one player who has delivered more than Freddy.

He certainly showed last season glimpses of his quality, his control and vision even though he didnt score loads showed he has the ability at times.

However what is missing at this point in time is any sort of form or consistency which obviously is due to fitness, only when he gets fit and produces performances on a regular basis can we make claims he is the best player in the bottom two divisions.

To simply say he is still the best player in two divisions because 6 years ago he was amazing is absurd.

Notice I only said this division, not the one above too! Regardless of recent history I still regard him to be the most naturally gifted player in League 2. League 1 is another matter though.

As jam man said he has the potential to be on the best players in the league but to say he is without doubt the best player in the division before seeing him play a minute of the season is laughable, have you seen every other player in this division play this season?
