Everyone is a squad player and they are as key as eachother!

But after watching what I watched on Saturday I wouldnt change a thing unless any of them pick up a knock in the week

Totally disagree about the Gills game - I thought Hall won that game for us when Bilel went off. He wasn't running rings round them but his pace alone caused them to defend further back than they wanted and he pressed them at the back very effectively, forcing them to hoof it long. Plus he won, and set up the corner that led to the goal.

Agree with Southend Neil. Sturrock should pick a team to win this game, not congratulate them for the last. That said, his only change should be Hall. Grant can sit on the bench for a bit, he has been unimpressive this season.

Agree about Gills defending further back but I didn't see it as being down to Hall. It was more a case of Southend's backs going up in adversity and naturally pushing higher up the pitch as a result, and Gills reacting with fear of a backlash/onslaught and playing deeper rather than trying to make their man advantage count. I thought that Hall was poor against Gills and Plymouth.

Anyway, four goals and a clean sheet. Just don't change it. Even making a change to midfield could upset our backline. IF i were to make a change then it'd be Hall for Ferdinand, who I thought was the weaker of the midfield quartet against Rotherham, but the 11 that started at the weekend deserve the chance to do the same thing. If things aren't working by half time, change it.

This is a real dilemma and I guess what Luggy is paid to do.

Do you change a winning Team?

Do you pick your bast available players?

Do you play the same Team at home when you will need to breakdown the opposition, as you would away from home when you can sit back, close the opposition down and either catch them on the break or from dead ball situations?

Personally I would bring in Hall for Ferdinand, however harsh on Kane that may seem, as I believe we will need Hall's match winning skills more than Kane's defensive skills. I don't expect Shrewsbury to come and attack us too much especially off the back of the Rotherham result.

I would keep the same starting line up, but bring on the likes of Hall if things go wrong. I think it would send out a strong message to the whole squad that no place is guaranteed, and that you have to perform well to stay in the team. Play well, and you keep your place. You would then get a 100% effort from anyone breaking into the team, and those trying to keep their place. It's a nice kick up the backside for Grant, who I think is our most inconsistent player for Years. Lately, he has been breaking up our own attacks by the way of losing the ball in a soft tackle, miss-control, or a poor simple pass to a team mate. At his best, yes, he is a very good player, but we don't see enough of it.
Very unlucky for Hall, who I feel will be up for player of the season by the end. But 'like I say' (Bit of Tilly there), will send a message.
If finding a place for our most creative player, then I would drop Ferdinand.

I think you've got to play hall. apart from that i would keep it the same. leonard on the right and hall on the left would be my choice.

morris

clohessy phillips barker gilbert

leonard kalalalala timlin hall

harris dickinson

bench bentley, moshni, grant, sturrock, prosser,

Thats not a bad squad at all considering we still have sawyer and Corr to come back from injury!

Ferdinand doesn't even make the bench? :omg:

Why have we GOT to play Hall - we have just won 4-0 away from home against one of the top sides. Also, not only are you dropping a player, but you're also changing the shape of the team (by moving the players around to compensate this change).

Anyway as a manager how would you say to Ferdinand 'I know we just won 4-0, but you're dropped' - wouldn't expect much from him in the next game your need him if he feels he can't even keep his place after that!!!

I'm sure we will start unchanged with Bentley, Hall, Mohsni, Grant and Sturrock/Prosser on the bench.

Surely because he is and has been our best attacking and creative player in this calendar year, also obtained the most number of assists in the whole league last season.

Also as you say we won 4-0 AWAY, a game at home will have a completely different pattern and there is more of an emphasis on us to attack and create and we have found this difficult so far this season, 6 goals in 5 home games tells its own story and thats with Hall in the team. Against Burton, Plymouth and Gills we have found it very difficult, midfielders being too similar so the last thing we want to do is to make things even more difficult for ourselves. Ferdinand, Timlin and Kalala is just too negative and doesn't contain enough invention and creativity at home.

Did anyone call for Hall to be dropped before Saturday? Not one I suspect, so why start now? As soon as we lose he will be back in the team anyway so why wait. Also you dont have to change the shape of the team, he is perfectly capable of playing in a number of positions and can slot into either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 which he has done on a number of occasions.

We'll have to agree to disagree

Though I agree he has been our best player for the last year that stat alone doesn't entitle you to walk into the team and of course no-one asked him to be dropped, we all knew he was suspended

Anyway, as you can see from my player ratings from the last home game, I felt he played as bad as the rest of the midfield and I don't think Timlin, Kalala, Ferdinand are too similar (Ferdinand played more of an attacking midfield role last season). Besides if I was Hall I would expect to be on the bench and for him to walk straight in, what signal does that send to him and the player how is dropped!!!

Besides if it isn't working bring him on, you have to remember that Tilson isn't the manager anymore and therefore we are likely to see subs before the 85th minute :winking:
