Loving this southend squad at the moment. Probably first time I've agreed with Mr Martin that letting tilly go was a good idea, just not the way he went about it. Keep up the good work ps!

Yes this is the big question. Add Corr and Sawyer into that list and you could say our 5 'best' players weren't even playing :o

A question for the guys who went, what formation did we use? As we had Timlin Ferdinand Leonard and Kuala bear playing, which makes it sound 4-4-2, or was Timlin played wide in a 4-3-3?

Leonards long throws caused problems and Timlins strikes speak for themselves, but I feel we need Hall in because he simply is our most creative player, I would probably swap him for Leonard, who seems brilliant for away games.

After seeing Grant in the Plymouth game, I am happy for him to sit out, Kuala waited for his chance to get back in and seems to have taken it. Moshni impact striking sub if we need him, I feel he is going to need to wait for Dickinson and Harris to loose form before he get's a chance.

Hall, Grant and Mohsni were all out of the team through their own fault and indiscipline. Picking up a suspension before 10 games have even been played is poor. Had they been coming back from injury then fair enough you might argue a case for them, but perhaps Luggy sees the best way to stamp out the number of bookings is by punishing those who get suspended. Not a bad idea really.

It isn't just the scoreline that makes me think we should start the same team - it was the whole performance, workrate and attitude from yesterdays lineup.

As said above if it's not working then the team can be changed early enough during the game with some quality sitting on the bench.(Christ it's been a long time since we've had that many decent options in reserve!):Worthy:
exactly, its a team game and the individuals yesterday worked as a team and they have earnt the right to do that again on Friday. If things aren't panning out we'll have a very strong to make changes. Everytime we went forward yesterday players were looking to each other and clearly they had a real understanding of where their team mates were, no reason to change that formula. After weeks of everyone moaning about hoofball and tactics and low entertainment value, everything yesterday was bang on, why mess with that, more of the same please.

We beat a very good side 4-0 away from home, would be madness to change the side. People that claim Rotherham were rubbish don't have a clue, we were just better than them in every position on the day. They will be right up there come the end of the season. We won that game because the whole side worked their socks off so we didn't allow them to play. We won 2-0 the previous week and people are whinging and moaning like its the end of the world and saying we'll get spanked next week, get a life its pathetic.

For me, the most compelling reason to keep the team the same is the fact that the shape of the side was so good. Mohsni and Grant lack positional discipline. I agree that Hall for Ferdinand is a logical option.

I understand the calls not to change a winning side, but Shrewsbury are one of the better teams in this God awful league, and being at home the onus will be on Blues to take the game to them. Therefore I'd pick Hall in the starting XI. That could be at the expense of Leonard who IMO Sturrock wants in his side for away matches. He played at Accrington & Rotherham, I can't remember if he played at Port Vale, but that's two really hard games we've won away where nobody gave us an earthly.

He did play at Port Vale and scored as well. I agree with you about the away side and fully expect to see Hall in the side come friday. Tricky game this one , as you say , one of the better sides. Still no reason why we shouldn't turn them over at home. Got a good feeling in my bones that Harris is about to come good so hopefully goals start to flow.
So much for boring Sturrock - 4 nil away, not even Tilson managed that ?

Not a problem, we are keeping blank sheets and winning. Keep an unchanged side and make players battle for a place. A settled side will win games in a canter in this league and we have strikers who if fit will frighten any team at this level.
Sturrock is on track.

I think it is difficult to change a winning team, but we don't know if anyone will pick up a knock in training. Ithought Kalala, Timlin and Leonard all had excellent games with perhaps Ferdinand the weakest of the midfield quartet.

I'd be inclined to start with the same team, with Hall on the bench. Maybe with him to replace Ferdinand if things aren't going well after 60 minutes. We could of course be 4 up by then!

If it aint broke dont fiddle with it .Thoes who missed out should be sitting on the bench awaiting there turn .What a great position to be in 11 players went into battle sataday and came out winners . For to long we have moaned about not having a bench well .This is some kind of bench GRANT HALL AND MOHSNI that sound good to me .

You are Steve Tilson, and I claim my five pounds!

At times, yes. But not all the time, and certainly not in the previous two home games against Gillingham ad Plymouth. He didn't perform in either game for me. The only way someone should waltz straight back into a team after a ban/injury is if that player is on mercurial form, and the fact that we've just recorded our most convincing win in ages without an off-colour Hall means that he should start on the bench on Friday for me. I don't agree with leaving it late to change though so if we're poor or not winning at the end of the first half then Hall must come on at half time.

Totally disagree about the Gills game - I thought Hall won that game for us when Bilel went off. He wasn't running rings round them but his pace alone caused them to defend further back than they wanted and he pressed them at the back very effectively, forcing them to hoof it long. Plus he won, and set up the corner that led to the goal.

Agree with Southend Neil. Sturrock should pick a team to win this game, not congratulate them for the last. That said, his only change should be Hall. Grant can sit on the bench for a bit, he has been unimpressive this season.

Yep, I'd go with that. A midfield four of Hall, Kalala, Timlin and Leonard would be my choice.

I'd still swap Kane for Kalalalalala.

Kane was mightily impressive last season, sitting in front of the back 4, but for some reason he's been playing in a more advanced role this season.

Difficult, but Hall has to play at home. Only him in though, Bilel and Grant can sit on the bench.

I don't really see where the place for Bilel is anyway, it's not upfront, and it's not in a defence who have three clean sheets on the bounce.

One of football's greatest fallacies.

absolutely. Fergie has changed his team after every win so far this season.

I'd bring Hall back in, but Grant has been below-par recently and Mohsni needs to chill the **** out.

A lot of the changes Ferguson has made have been enforced mind.

As I said earlier in the thread Hall would definitely be in my side, so if that means changing a winning side, then so be it.

I've always been a believer of not changing a winning team but IF there was to be a change I'd take Kane out and bring Hall back in.
