DiCanio

Sadly Wigan will still go down. Man City & Arsenal to play will be a step too far. Still next season, here's hoping

I doubt losing to Man City will hurt their fight for relegation :winking:

Wigan have West Brom and Swansea next, who both can't move up or down much. Wigan went to Arsenal and won last season, then they have a home tie against Aston Villa which would be very interesting!

Sunderland have Stoke and Southampton at home, and both are pretty much safe now. They then have Spurs away, which could be very tricky! Got to admit, I did have a good laugh when I saw Sunderland last 6-1.

This past weekend Di Canio has spoken out and disciplined several of Sunderland's "stars" for gambling/drinking and being tits. He may be a bit of a strange man but he certainly has pointed out and is dealing with obvious problems in the Black Cats' squad. It will be interesting to see who he brings in.

I didn't know what to make of it and you can see why he's such a Marmite character. Solid in the discipline stakes but washing dirty linen in public, it'll be interesting to see what happens. He definitely wears his heart on his sleeve though and he's compelling viewing.

I give it three months before he's lost the dressing room. You can get away with that kind of nonsense to a certain extent with lesser players as they're far more likely to accept Di Canio's law of the land, but dealing with bigger players and personalities will require a far more tactful approach.

That said, it's more of a ploy to get Ellis Short to conduct the transfer dealings he wants done.

My guess is that he will have half the squad already committed to his way and the others to be shown the door PDQ.
With his type of management the important things are to treat all fairly, openly and for him (Di Canio) to set the example by his own work ethic (which my to my understanding has always been long, hard days of training.)

Listening to talk sport a lot of their players have complained to the PFA as the fines he is dishing out are too strict.

He sounds like a very poor man manager to me. Just being "strict" isnt good management.

Its one thing celebrating every goal like he has personally scored the winner in the world cup, but the way he treats players when things arent going well will be his undoing.

Dont agree with this. As long as he keeps within employment law he can treat his players however he likes. Too many big time Charlie's in the premier league and about time a manager started enforcing some rules. Personally I prefer the Graeme Souness approach of cutting them in half during training.

That's true, but won't necessarily get the best out of the players. As stated previously, good man management is more than just being strict, and being too strict will just lead to resentment.

How did that pan out then ?

Wonder how many of those West Ham fans who wanted Big Sam gone and Di Canio in still feel that way?

13 new signings and 5 games to prove himself and he has been sacked? Something else must of happened because 5 games isn't enough of a chance. Trigger happy chairman?

Alienated the changing room most likely. We've seen how he slates them publicly, so it's probably worse behind closed doors.

5 games and bottom of the league and his players hate him.

Time isnt going to sort out their problems. Always a disaster waiting to happen that one.
