On second thoughts, that is more than a decent total. I’ve had nagging doubts about this team for a while but if they win from here then they really will deserve their favourites tag.

If Buttler doesn’t turn up then Root will have to play an unnatural aggressive chasing game.
This could be a big defeat against a side brushed aside by the windies.

Need two big overs and Ali looking like the tail ender he actually is. Woakes need to bat higher up order - nowhere near enough time to get going.

Good effort but with two centurions you would have thought we could have taken it
Fair play to Pakistan, though I feel our fielding lost us the match rather than batsmen

Roy’s head had gone, you could see he wasn’t right when they appealed for a leg before he appeared to exchange verbals - a real worry if he’s that easy to wind up. Can’t have been over dropping a dolly and if it was then it’s even more worrying. Opening is a area we don’t have cover with Billings injury and Hales throwing his chance away. It was also important to get a start when chasing over three hundred and England were three done before we got to a hundred and then lost Stokes to a soft one soon after, always up against it from there.
Lessons to be learnt are namely moving Ali down the order, he’s hopelessly out of nick with the bat. Lost count of the swing and misses, not good enough and Woakes should take his place in the order.
He did bowl well today and for once out bowled Rashid who took some stick but still a match winner for me. Wood out bowled Archer and Woakes went for a few but took wickets.
Would like to see a bit of variety in the attack like a Curran, hope they don’t regret picking a too samey attack, I would have gone for Willey over one of the three quicks.
Enough games to sort this out but just a few signs all is not so rosey.

Just wonder if the whole teams head were in right mind set

Thumped in ODI and thrashed by W Indies in first game, just wonder how many English players, thought they needed just to walk on the field and win the match

Good for competition that favourite teams are getting beat, open the doors to other games, and lets be honest SA must hit form sooner than later
