Ah ok, makes sense. Think testing is a much swifter process now.

It certainly is easier and quicker, full details of what tests and where you can get them is here:-

You can book a PCR test if you have symptoms and a quick LFD test if you don't have symptoms (asymptomatic).
The reason for offering testing for asymptomatic people is that they could have it and be spreading it even before any symptoms appear. If an asymptomatic person tests positive this means that they can start isolation early and therefore not spread the virus to as many people as they would otherwise, this helps drive down the reinfection rates.

A lot of that is obviously true, but people also need to take responsibility for their own lives. By not making people responsible you give then a "get out of jail" card. After all, there are plenty of well educated, well off people that are obese too. Two of my closest friends would probably come into that category.
True.
I have a relative who had a couple of minor heart attacks. He was admitted for tests and evaluation, and education.
I collected him on discharge and he, unbelievably, moaned that they didn't fix him but advised him to take more exercise ( he avoids any type or work), eat better and fruit, veg ( he exists on pizza and bisciits), drink less ( he insists 3 or 4 guiness is good) and stop smoking( he has rolled his own for 50 years).
During this pandemic he has been in hospital for several months for other things but not yet covid.
He hasn't worked for 30 years and is on sick for depression.
He has had help after help but now is truely on his own as a sad waste.

IMO the welfare system, NHS, family intentions, all well meaning "made" him.

And likely many others.

There does need to be a balance and a social contract between help and personal responsibility.

You have to remember we are not talking about the doctors and nurses within the NHS, they are fantastic and singlehandedly saved my Dads life.

It's the structure and running of the organisation that needs complete overhaul. But this is probably a discussion for another day.

Doctors and nurses were not specifically highlighted although do fully agree with your comments about the great work they do.

A re-organisation and full financial accountability is required but with so many MPs having personal financial interest (through their affiliations with contractors serving the NHS) very much doubt
anything meaningful will happen. Like you say, maybe a topic for another day.

Sorry folks, we do understand that there’s not much going on in the world that isn’t political at the moment. It’s hard not to have a view and want to express it. However, the zone is an important oasis away from all that and in order to keep us united on our common love of football and Southend United in particular we took the decision to ban talk of politics here. It isn’t a political forum, or a forum for rampant talk of any subject unfettered. It’s a football community with some additional boards for mutual support and sharing personal experiences. We try to spot and moderate where politics creeps in but we’re a small team with busy lives doing this as a labour of love in our free time. We will miss things at times but that’s all it is. It would be a huge help if we can leave the politics out of it on the zone please - there is a whole world of political websites out there for everyone to use to discuss politics. Keep safe one and all - that next game we can all attend gets nearer with every passing day.

I think you MODS are going to find it hard with this thread now with regards to political comments, the whole Covid thing has very much swung political now.

You're going to be deleting a lot of comments in the future.

Just saying.

We used to have an very active Politics Forum, but it became so toxic that it was driving posters away from the Zone, so the decision was taken to remove any politics from the Zone forums. That is still the case and, as @Spaceman Spiff says above, if we discover political posts they will be removed.

I totally get it, nothing more divided than politics, more so than supporting SUFC.

The police are stamping down I see, for breaking Covid lockdown rules. They normally fine the organiser. This party they fined all 18 party goers £800 each(Ouch), with more fines to come for the organisers.

A GROUP of reckless revellers caught having an illegal house party have been fined almost £15,000 by Essex Police.

Officers attended a house in Bury Road, Sewardstonebury, at 5pm on Saturday, following reports a number of partygoers were having a gathering in a clear and flagrant breach of coronavirus restrictions.

After arriving at the house, which is a vacant rented property, officers were initially refused entry from those inside who claimed to be making a music video.
However, officers forced their way inside and found 18 individuals having a party while others were still arriving at the property.

Officers quickly contained the party, prevented any others from attending, and fined all of those present before sending them on their way.

An investigation will take place to identify the organisers of the party.
Essex Police are also working with partners to put measures in place to prevent the future unlawful use of the property

Well here in Perth we’ve been sent into a five day lockdown due to one case of community transmission.

We have a very good track and trace system here. When you go into a shop, bar, restaurant, take away etc. you have to scan a QR code. The person who has got the community transmission had been into nine locations so they’ve asked everyone who has been in those locations at certain times to get tested.

If none of those people tested have the Covid-19 then we’ll be out of lockdown Friday. If some have they’ll track and trace them and so on. We’ll be on a longer lockdown. I bloody hate working from home.

Well done the police but, sadly the damage has already been done, the infection has been spread.

I really don't get the mentality of people, the infection and death rate isn't going down, it's just selfishness which I see time and time again.

Australia is a much bigger country with a smaller population, we have to rely on people being sensible which isn't happening.

Good size, orderly, distanced queue awaiting jab at back of S U H this afternoon.
Seemed to be over 70s or well preserved oldsters!

I can foretell an announcement that over 80s group has first jab completed soon. And over 75s well on the way.

Well, my cousin has just passed away. She'll go down as being a Covid case because she had it when she died, having caught it in Southend Hospital while on a side ward, where she was having palliative care as her organs were shutting down after years of bulimia and alcoholism. Never got over the trauma of her dad leaving when she was young and never wanting anything to do with her or her brother. So sad.

Sad stuff, not just the death but the illnesses leading to it, and the mental anguish that reads as such a big factor in the whole sad tale.
Is her uncaring father still living to know the disaster that trailed in his wake?

My condolences to you, your family and friends.

Politicians being mentioned. Come on mods, these are your rules, delete the post.

Come on mate, I think you're being a bit silly now, the poster said that certain people will announce that the vaccine programme is going well and the over 80's are near to being vaccinated. That's a a good thing.

FWIW ,I heard of a 96 year old woman in a UK carehome who passed away last Monday. She'd had her first jab about a week or so earlier and had Covid at the time of her death, which as @Rigbsy will tell you goes down on her death certificate as cause of death.Be warned.

Be warned of anecdotes?

Be warned of anecdotes?

It might be an anecdote but it still happened to my cousin-in-law's mum. She's due to go back for the funeral in Feb.That'll be fun for her,her husband and their two young adult sons with covid restrictions on travelling ,PCR's and quarentine restrictions etc.
