Hooray, I caught one!

(For clarification, I think Straker put in a performance that will probably go down as the worst in the history of Wembley.)

Re Mr Straker - yes he did make a lot of errors particularly towards the end of the game - however from my excellent vantage point high up on the halfway line whenever he got the ball in the first half he nearly always had 3 Crewe players around him & no support - he had no choice but to either knock into space for Britt & Tomlin to chase or take someone on.

By contrast whwnever Crewe attacked they nearly always has an outlet because our midfield was not keeping up.

Everyone shouting "sit down please"

Not used to being treated so politely at the football

On the train listening to talk about management change.
genius 1 " teams need stability, like my Man U, stay with the manager"
genius 2 "and arsenal too"
genius 1 "Man U have done it before, what was the manager that put the Busby babes team together? he was with us years too?"
Genius 2 "Don't know, before my time..............Busby?":'(

As a girl I know I know nothing about football!! I am a season ticket holder and go to all the home games. Yesterday was full of promise and optimism but realistically we knew we hadn't been playing well. We just all wanted to experience a goal or even better the atmosphere from the win. Disappointed ...Damn Yes... expected result...sadly yes.
I have said all season that Assombalonga is disappointing. I do understand the type of player that he is but he ..never jumps for the header, loses the ball all too easily and as far as i am concerned produces very little on a regular basis. Bilel is a prima donna and as a grown man you would have thought he could contain himself, instead he is a liability. He does go for the tackle but it's always with us holding our breath as to the outcome. Was he really injured in our goal or having a paddy!!!
I would have put Corr and Reeves on from the start. Reeves is tenacious and will keep fighting to win the ball, Corr seems to bring a different way of playing when he comes on. I know some say he's not very versatile but I disagree. Cresswell remains my fav of the season as I think he has been commanding in defense.
Now why do we keep playing the long ball!! It just does not work for us but time and time again we go out and play it. It's sent down the pitch for our center forward to not even attempt to jump for it. It just goes straight back to the opposition.
That's it no more, other than to say, great day out, disappointing result but no matter the weather we will be at roots hall to see the season out supporting the boys.

I think the sad thing for me was hearing "it will be a long time till I go to Roots Hall again", a better performance/result that might have changed to "when will We be playing again".

Truth is if you don't do it on the pitch all the enthusiam and hype has no lasting effect.

Ditto - heard the same as we boarded the train back

I wasn't sure if it was sarcasm, but a group of guys behind me thought we were in league 1 and Crewe were league 2....I told them it was the other way round but still couldn't tell if they were being sarcastic or not. Hope they were but wouldn't surprise me if they were not, they spent the whole game chatting crap anyway and didn't look interested at all.
Why pay all that money and time to come and then not give any kind of support or enthusiasm for the game? Me and my group were the only ones in our little section that were shouting. No chants for the whole 90 everyone just sat stone faced talking amongst themselves.
It was pretty **** overall if im honest, I at least expected a decent atmosphere, but thanks to the early goals in each half and the day trippers it was awful. Way way worse than the previous 2 finals and playoff final from memory. Such a let down!

026]Had a bloke behind me saying to his son after our bad start "should never have sold Hall & Mohsni", on his son saying Mohsni was actually playing he told him "no we sold him to West Spam son"....He was a bit drunk and a plank to worry about telling him he was actually playing for us (well sort of!)[/B]

Then on way out heard to Southend fan moaning about display on which 2 other guys said he sounds a bit upset , I wonder what he would be like if he supported a real team like Liverpool. My missus had enough and told the guys "Southend is actually a real team you ********" which quickly shut them up.

Anyone else have any comments overheard yesterday?

that was the same bloke who's crowd tried to start a fight with us in block 132 when we asked his kid nicely to sit on the chair rather than stand with a flag blocking the view, we will see him again, he's bound to be on Jeremy Kyle soon, poor kids don't stand a chance in with him as a dad!!

Think i heard that before the kick off. I was sat in row in front of them he had a flat cap and all i kept hearing was left there mate asleep in the Green Man pub! Agree he was classic Jeremy Kyle material!

We had five people behind us f'ing and c'ing and shouting the whole game interspersed with " who is that f'ing w'ker anyway and looking in the programme for his name. Embarassing to be honest.

Yeah, he kept saying to my mate 'I'm gonna open you up' & 'I'm gonna shock ya'......... It's only when I had a go back, told him to shut the f up & watch the game, he didn't react to that strangely, as was prepared for him to kick off... He went & stood down the front second half & the other 2 went to find there mate as the phone call said to the guy left behind, they spent £36 on a ticket & missed the game!!!

i though he was gonna shock us all by saying he had a job & didn't claim benefits, but he never did!

Had some bloke behind me trying to give his girlfriend a running commentary on the whole of the first half " Ahh take im orf, that left back striker is fecking shhhhit". Then in the second half he said that "Paul Smith" should be back in goal cos at least he can kick????????? Actually glad he walked out with 10 minutes to go because it saved me vomiting all over his jacket......His girlfriend was a worldy though!

I had a guy directly behind me who spent most of the game telling his mate stories about all the Chelsea games he's been to ( being a fan of a real club though he was able to enlight us with a whole load of cliche's he'd heard on match of the day between all the chelsea stories). He was also convinced that we shouldn't have been flagged offside in the 2nd half as the ball had "come off their defender" - when I explained that Britt (or Gav?) was still offside when it was played through, he in the first place seemed nonplussed..Also a guy on one side of me trying to explain things to his young son, but clearly he had no idea himself, Fortunately his son was too young to realise his dad was talking bollocks.

Other than that, not too bad in my block if I'm honest

Great post - I know what you mean about Assombalonga. He has no physical presence and stoops down rather than competing for any aerial challenge. He doesn't hold the ball up well and sadly does not get behind the back four as much as he could. Granted the supply from midfield could be better.

That was driving me bonkers yesterday!! He did it at least 3 times, he might not be able to win the ball but at least try to make it harder for the defender.

You must have been quite close to me. I was right next to the Royal Box. I agree that Straker didn't really get the support from Barker that Clohessy provides down the right, but that doesn't excuse his dithering on the ball that allowed Crewe to close him down. It also doesn't excuse him continuously misplacing 10 yard passes.

We had a young chap of around 8 to 12ish near us in 552 that kept on shouting sensible things out like SHIELD THE BALL or KEEP YER HEADS UP,kids going to go a long way in football.
