Official Match Thread Colchester V Southend United

There is a big difference between ,moving the ball forward quicker and hoofing it up the pitch EVERY ****ING CHANCE YOU GET!!!

It is great to mix it up a bit with the odd long ball but Col U have a 6' 3" and a 6' 4" player in their forward line, we don't. A lot of teams will have one big target man in their team, but not 2 and if they did they wouldn't normally play both at the same time! But it works for them.

Cr4p to watch though!

Once the ball is up near our box and they get to face goal, their movement was excellent, spinning off the fullbacks looking for the ball.
If you haven't got the ball players then yes, lump it up there.
But the point is, the ball got played upfront, we spend too much time when we should be attacking, going round in circles in wide areas of midfield and running up our own arsh.

No usual posts this evening as I wanted to concentrate on the game. So as I cannot be accused by any Cochester scum, lurking on here, I will begin by saying that they mastered the conditions better than us and got their win by a joke of a first goal..................although, even allowing for the conditions Barrett c****d up following another defenders slip. The result was settled with a scrappy second which was again poor defending from a set piece.
That's just about as good as the Ewes are going to get, for as regards a match of football, it was a total farce. The pitch wasn't fit for a Sunday Pub match, it was a total disgrace. It should be reported to the Football League..........though I don't suppose that will serve for anything. The Ewes were, apart from mastering the conditions, not that great and I think I wiil take nearly as much pleasure from seeing their promotion push falter, as I will from seeing us slowly drawing away from relegation trouble.......because that's what I believe we will do.
I was so thrilled at the opportunity of seeing us live on the computer but at end of the evening I felt robbed ........not about losing the match..........but being cheated out of seeing a match of football. This was just a scrap and the Ewes scrapped just a bit harder than us.

We didn't scrap, we played football, and very well at times. Col Ewe will go up by hoofing and scrapping but will come straight back down. We can't play hoof football, we pass the ball about, and even in the worst conditions I have seen in many a year, thought we passed the ball about well, just no end product, mainly thanks to Laurent inability to look up.

Dont feel confident at all about the games after Tranmere.

Hartlepool, exeter carlise wallsall and Bristol Rovers in march though will make or break our season.

And Speller has just been taking great pleasure in reading the bottom of the table. And great pleasure in reading out Ewe scum texts

My view in brief :

Played all the football between the penalty boxes

B*lls up by Barrett for 1st goal

Can't defend set pieces

Homer ref

Laurent decision making abysmal

Good games by Moussa , Scannell

No penetration

Our set piece delivery (Malone) appalling

I don't think it's any coincidence that we played some excellent football, albeit in a ploughed field, with Moussa in the middle and with a right footed winger on the right and a left footed one of the left. We had balance for almost the first time this season. We played some lovely stuff and had it not been for that pitch, we'd have got something out of it. Paterson should've taken his chance though.

Watt was wasted on that pitch, although he'll clearly do well on a proper surface.

Malone is the most pointless loan signing that Tilly has ever made. The guy is hopeless. Me Scott. Me see ball. Me swing left leg at it.

Spencer clearly has the intelligence to get into good goalscoring positions and I'd wager he'll get a few more goals before the end of the season, as long as he's not playing alongside the tunnel visioned, greedy git that is Laurent.

Moussa was excellent.

M'Voto got better as time went on once he adjusted to that surface.

Scannell was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. I'd love it if certain people came on here and ate their words, but we all know they won't.

IF Saturday's game goes ahead then I'd love it if we kept the midfield the same, although we all know Alan "tell the world he hasn't been paid on Facebook" McCormack will come back in and ruin and passing football we try.

I can see Laurent being "rested" for the Tranmere game. Scannell did a good job tonight so should start and Tilly's duty bound to play Watt. He won't play Laurent as a striker with Vernon back. We're going in to this next run of games with a stronger squad than we've had recently (as long as Mildy's fit). You can see I'm trying convince myself that things can only get better.

Never cringed so much in a Southend shirt. Adam just doesn't make mistakes, to top his bad night of his fine goal was chalked off, man up ref.

Scannell was brilliant, hopefully that will get you lot of his back for a while. Laurent was again shocking at decision making, and as the commentator said, thats probably why he is at this level. SPENCER WAS FREE AT THE BACK POST!!!11

farmers knew the pitch a bit better, looked more organized and stronger, seemed to win every second ball for alot of the game and most importantly got the luck.

YES! .........but the problem was that you couldn't play football on that pitch!
Having said that, the one brilliant move of the night came from us in the second-half, when Scannell jinked his way into the box and flicked on a perfect ball to Paterson ........only to see the goalkeeper make a good save. I think it was probably the only move in the match that deserved a goal.
I saw enough to encourage me tonight. When we eventually get a more settled side and are able to play on a surface that merits League football, I believe that we will get ourselves out of trouble.

Point mentioned on Sky. We've not scored a goal in the league in the 1st half since mid Nov. We've got to get the 1st goal rather than keep chasing the game.

But it's clear we're going down.:O

For me, it depends a lot on what Tilly does with his team selection from now on. That team out there tonight with Herd swapped with Malone, Vernon with Laurent, and Barrett swapped with Baldwin would keep us up in my opinion. But we all know Barrett and McCormack are untouchable no matter what so that won't happen. Moussa, despite being excellent tonight will no doubt be dropped to the bench on Saturday so McCormack can stroll back in despite publicising the wages issue on Facebook to anyone and everyone and being generally cack this season. Tilson for my money needs to go against his "familiar" feelings and show some guts to keep us up.

Havent read previous posts so apologies if mentioned. Scannell was immense tonight best game he has played for us. Why didnt Tilson make changes as soon as we were 2 down? Why doesnt Herd start instead of Malone? Why was Barretts goal disallowed?
This was another game where we were our own worst enemy!! How many points have we lost due to mistakes?
