Personally I think you need to manage your expectations. We may well win, but, as much as I would like it to be, I don't think it will be a total smashing.

That said, I'd take a 1-0 any day of the week, and twice on Boxing Day.

Well I think you need to dare to dream and not be so glass half empty, different strokes for different folks hey

We have the potential to be very good but at present the team are struggling with confidence through conceding so many goals. Harriott will be close to playing his final game for us, Jamie Jones (Goalkeeper) will be gone unless his loan is extended, our main keeper Sam Walker has been out injured all season so I would think Elliot Parish may well be between the sticks on Boxing day. We have not been scoring as much recently but do have some very good forward players when they play to their full abilities. Owen Garvan makes a big difference, you guys should have signed him because he is a class act. He has been injured the last 6 games but should be back to face you guys.

Yeah things could click or go wrong for either side, that's football. I'd suggest the odds are stacked in our favour though

Col Ewes do have threat going forward that for sure! I just hope we go there to give it a right go at them and see what happen. In a derby like this, form goes out of the window!

using that old cliche , as long as we score one more than they do , I don't give a flying one what or how we play....I've spent too many years having to take the crap from a work colleague spouting their rubbish about how better they are than us... It's as simple as that

I hope it is a real lively derby whoever wins, sometimes although it is a big deal for the fans some players just don't bother to battle it out. As you have 5 ex Colchester players some of whom have a point to prove that may give you the edge.

Plus our superior alround ability , don't forget that .............:winking:

Out of curiosity, what are your opinions on the 5 ex players of yours?

Ok my opinion only

John White Reliable and much under rated by many never going to be a world beater but we should never have let him go.
Cian Bolger Only played 3 times for us on loan as a young lad, he was a liability at that time but must have improved by now.
David Mooney He was ok but no world beater, needs 10 chances to score a goal and was far too lightweight for this division.
Anthony Wordsworth. No doubt a quality player and a decent free kick expert too. His attitude lets him down at times he tends to look lazy gets involved in petty disputes during games and is certainly one to divide opinions amongst the fans.
Ben Coker. Looked very good when he first arrived with us via a reccomendation from the then Bury Town manager Richard Wilkins (One of our old players) However Ben faded and cost us lots of goals by not being a decent tackler and getting caught out of position far too often by being too far advanced up the pitch. It will be interesting to see how he copes with our pace he seems to have settled really well at Roots Hall and showing the potential we thought he had in the 1st place.

Apart from Coker, who obviosulsy at the time with you was a bit inexperienced, the same would be pretty much spot on for us as well. JW very under rated by many on here. CB was awful IMO when he first joined. It got to the stage where I would rather play people out of position at the back than him, but he's proved himself now. Occasional lapses in concentration still but a very decent player now. Think DM has had a really bad time of late, and the 1 in 10 chances is pretty much bang on. Although I think most do genuinely appreciate he looks a technically good player, I also think most would agree he needs a rest now. Again, although AW looks a technically good player, he can look lazy and hasn't really done much in all honesty. Started to get a bit of form and got injured and now out for about another month. BC is a real fans favourite here. Great going forward, more than capable at defending and one of the most gifted footballers we have.

Don't disagree with CAP too much
White - I'm biased, I've known him for a few years - really good bloke, model professional, personally I thought he was massively underated at our place, Dunne wanted to keep him but budget was slashed we offered him new contract on far less money - mixed views from our fans - some rated, some hated but most would take him back in a heartbeat now given the state of our defence!
Bolger - was hopeless in the few games he played - positionally weak, struggled to time a tackle and just hoofed - presume he's developed since then
Mooney - bit of a rock star - went through purple patches but equally long periods (throughout career) where he did nothing - useless in the air, not very strong at hold up play either - more instinctive player - if the ball was lashed across the box he'd put it away but if he time to think in front of goal he was far less effective.
Wordsworth - split opinions - as CAP says he looks languid and lazy but that's just his natural running style - had loads of ability - if he got time on the ball he'd more often than not pick out a great ball/shot - very good on deadball situations - career blighted by "issues" at clubs - some will say it was attitude, some might say he was spending too much time at the chemists (either legal or otherwise)
Coker - I think he was quality but always seemed fragile - started really well and as he came from non-league opposition hadn't scouted him etc so made a big impact - once he'd been here a while he was worked out quite well in that running at him would make him empty his bowels (but trying to knock ball past him and chasing wouldn't work) - Personally I think he just wants to be a midfielder and struggles with the defensive responsibilites - he would perfectly suited (based on what I saw when he was with us) as a wing back where he'd have more cover at the back and could express himself going forwards.

Honestly - of the 5 right now (even with the state of our team/defence) I'd only take White and Coker (in that order) but not having seen Bolger for a long time perhaps he has developed into a much better player now?

We all have different opinions NEWS glad you had similar views to mine though, but you would probably know more than me with your inside knowledge if you are who I think you are!
