Excellent knowledge of our recent history, when we've generally finished the season very strongly...

Anyway I see your point guys. If Halford and Danns get sold, Yeates gets recalled against the terms of his contract by Spurs, and if our captain, first choice goalkeeper and centre-back pairing stay out injured for the rest of the season (as they ALL were today)... then the rest of you definitely have a chance.

Otherwise, we are the nuts in this division. We went to a slightly below-strength Sheffield United and came from a goal down to beat them at a canter. We TOOK THE P1SS out of Derby this afternoon and we've won 18 of our last 20 matches, equalling a club record winning streak twice along the way.

The trouble is, when all those injuries do hit, as they have quite severely this week, we have players waiting in the wings who would stroll straight into your team. You're doing well on what you've got, but I'd suggest injuries are likely to be a far bigger problem for you than for us as the season rolls on.

Just try to keep up, eh?

Now THAT'S what I call confidence in your side.

Yes, you've done well in the FA Cup
Yes, you're on a blinding run in the league and are deservedly in the promotion places.

But you've effectively said you're by far the best team in the league (I can't comment on this, I've only seen you play once so far this season) and should win it by a country mile, so you're setting yourself up for a mighty fall if you finish anywhere other than first....

And to be fair, I doubt you've seen us play more than twice so I don't think you can make comments on our squad or how many of your players would 'walk into it'.

Even though I dont particularly like Col.U - based on the fact they have won 18 out of 20, got to the 5th round of FA Cup, Southern Final of LDV I would daresy they must be quite a good side! Whether the cup distractions will effect their league form will we have to wait and see but while they keep winning then confidence will be sky high , lets hope they have their bad patch around March though.

See you on the 4th
You sad person.

I hate Col Ewe as much as anybody, but you have to give them some credit and I would rather lose 6-0 on the 4th March and go up than beat them and not go up.

Get some perspective, its the whole season that is important not 90 mins against them.
Lose 6-0 to Col******r your having a laugh right.
Maybe i am a sad person but saying i would rather lose to the scum is like saying you would sleep with your mother.(not Directed at you, just a comment)
You just would not say it!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if we both go up, atleast theres one team we can beat next season
smile.gif

It will be a good game and one we need to win because i cant see Col******r dropping many points, so we will need to make sure we make them drop some. As long as we keep winning at home and drawing away like we do then we will go up

I know I would hate to lose to Col Ewe, but if we did lose and go up I would be ecstatic, compared to feeling sick after losing out on promotion, but winning on 4th March. I would rather see Southend doing well, winning promotion and losing 1 more match all season than have us win at Layer Road, but lose half the rest of our games and miss out on promotion.

To all you ColWho? fans who cant find any friends on your own board ( im just presuming that you have one ) before you carried away by all the hype may I repectfully ask you to look at where Derby are in the Championship and take a closer look at their away record. They are only 6 places above us ( 7 above you ) in the pyramid and they have won 2 games away from home all season !!!!! None the less I was delighted that you won yesterday and are in the LDV area final , you wont win the FA cup of course you will get destracted by the LDV , you will by the law of averages pick up more injuries more booking and suspensions and have a lovely fixture backlog come the end of the season and be playing 2 games most weeks when we will be playing just the one therefore only strengthening our chances of promotion and lessening yours. Enjoy your moment as I feel it will all end in tears for you .

To be honest after supporting Col******r for more years than most people on this board have been born, I dont really care if we go up or not.
Whatever happens Parky has done wonders with very little cash to spare, and already this season is a success however it finishes, short of us getting relegated, however that seems unlikely.
We have already equalled our best ever spot, which is top of this league, and done very well in 2 cup competitions.
Neither of our stadiums would be very suitable for championship football, and ours in particular would be a very sick joke.
Both sides like to kid themselves that they can go up, but in truth we are both small clubs trying to compete in a tough league already without over stretching ourselves in the championship.
Could either of our clubs afford to go up, no of course they cant, would they survive more than one season if they did, yes maybe, but they would be struggling near the relegation zone all season.
I know you lot have been in the 2nd division before, but you had a far better side then than you have now.
So lets enjoy the rest of this season, spend all our money following our heroes around the country, and then probably see them fail at the last hurdle, like we have all seen them do in the past.

If we go up, we will struggle. But there are clubs our size in the division above - Brighton, Crewe (poor example I know, but they have done well up there in the past) and Luton come to mind without even thinking. Rotherham have survived up there on a pittance as well, as did Gillingham.

At the moment our squad is nowhere near good enough to survive, neither is Col******r's - but there's nothing to say we can't improve our squads on a shoestring, especially when we both have such talented young managers at our helms.

Besides, Wigan were a tiny club surrounded by big Premier$hite teams ten years ago. Now they're in the lague cup final and nicely placed in the Premier$hite. Their club has grown (just as we are growing at the moment) - it may be improbable, but it's not an impossible dream.

That is a quality post mate...

Yes, I am being cocky, and setting myself up for a fall - but the thing is I don't believe in fate and I was pretty cocky about the LDV games but still had the balls to come on here and say well done to you afterwards. There is a difference between being confident and being unable to admit you were wrong...

This is how I see our season now. I will be fairly disappointed now if we don't go up automatically, and surprised if we fall away enough to miss out on the playoffs. I am one of the most objective football fans you'll ever meet but that's how good I think the team is.

The two cups are enjoyable distractions - but I think the results do give me quite a strong case. People will of course say Sheffield Utd were under strength, and Derby are rubbish away from home. Well I'm sorry but we can only play the teams we're drawn against, and we played both of them off the park!

One thing you're certainly right about - I've only seen your team play once, and you were better than us on the day, so I shouldn't comment on which of our players could make it into your team. I apologise. To rephrase completely, we have an extremely strong squad - as demonstrated emphatically yesterday when we were missing important players with injuries and playing a team from a league above.

I may have got a little carried away last night. I am just enjoying the moment. All this "you'll come unstuck" stuff is SO stupid. Sport is played in the here and now, you have to enjoy it while it lasts... let's say Col U and Southend are promoted this season, it's a fantastic achievement whether we come straight back down or not.

Everything is temporary in football.

Which is why supporting clubs like SUFC and CUFC is ulimately so much more rewarding than choosing to support some "Top" club 50 or 150 miles away. It is the dreary, awful struggling days with donkeys for players that makes the good times so much more enjoyable. I defy any Man U or Arsenal (never been relegated? where's the challenge in that?) fan to tell me that he gets more pleasure from winning the FA cup or the Premier$hite than I got from being at the Mill Stad when Kev and the boys lifted the Play-off Final Trophy. We fans EARNED it over season after season of mediocrity, and from the tears being shed around me I wasn't the only one to feel like that!

Great post and sums things up very well.
I always said I would not go to Wembley until Col U got there............and suffered many years of p%&s taking
biggrin.gif

When big Roy lead the team out at Wembley in 1992, I was awash with pride, it may have been only the FA Trophy, but my team had made it (and yes I did have a tear in my eye)
laugh.gif

The other 2 Wembley trips although great events in themselves, never quite matched that 1st one.
