Che in at right back

Che will do a good job at right-back if called upon. Even though he might not be as good as either Hunt or Francis, I would rather have a fully fit Che than a half-fit Hunt or Francis lining up against Borient on the 11th...

So in conclusion M'lud:

Che: sign that one-year contract.

Tilly: play him at right back against Maldon, and let's see how it goes...

I rest my case. On the floor.

(Coat, door, gone...)

Well if Che wants to play left-back i can't see a lot stopping him.In my opinion Hammel got skinned last night down his flank, only won about two headers all night and never covers his centre-backs.And kept giving the ball away.
Looking across the back line at Wakering you would have thought he was the most senior defender in that first-half back three but did he stamp any authority during that spell? No.Did he cover the poor trialist? No.
I don't think Che is a great defender by all means but at least he is competitive where it matters.

Let's go head to head on these two.This is just my opinion.Marks given out of ten.Wilson v Hammel;
Heading W8 H6
Control W7 H8
Tackling W8 H7
Speed W6 H8
Distribution W7 H7
Covering W8 H5
Communication W7 H6

TOTAL W51 H47

so Barratt was carrying jupp and sodje as well as che because tilly replaced all three of them

well said. i think che was brilliant in league 1 and 2. he got dropped in the championship because francis and hammell came in who are better than him. to be honest i would play che over hunt. i've never been realy impressed by hunt.

Ches a legend! Isnt his natural poistion RB anyway?
After talking to him on saturday he said he likes to play there but for some reason T&B dont like playing him there.

Im not really a Hunt fan either to be honest. I think he done well when he was on loan at Derby and covered well for Maher when he was out a couple of seasons back (think he was suspended) in CM but i think at RB he just looks to pump the ball up to often.

Maybe its just because ive settled to Juppys style of cutting inside.

I think Che deserves his chance he never bottles a tackle and as mentioned before hes alrite in the air.

My marks - 6 being average

Heading W6 H4
Control W4 H6
Tackling W7 H6
Speed (going forward) W3 H5
Speed (going backwards) W10 H 5
Distribution W2 H6
Covering W5 H5
Communication W7 H6
Dealing with opponent running at you W0 H5

Wilson 44 Hammell 47

But that does assume the speed going backwards is an important asset.

Che has done fantastically well to make a career out of his meagre talents, and Tilly and Brush did even better to fashion two promotion teams including him in. But don't make the mistake of thinking that because Hammell has been poor than Che is any good.

I'd like to see Barrett at left-back, with a tall centre-half (preferably one who can speak English) partnering Clarke in the middle.

Wow.

On that list I'd give Wilson Heading and possibly tackling (Che likes a tackle but that doesn't by itself make him any good at tackling). That's it though. I'm staggered that you have them both the same for distribution.

For what it's worth, Che will do a job for us at right back and at least he won't have the problem that he has on the left, ie constantly being on his foot.

Che's distribution was actually really good in L1. O.K,he didn't steam down the wing but he never gave the ball away too much.Jusat did the simple things.Gower certainly recieved plenty of passes.
Che was never gonna cut in the Chumpionship because of his pace, but that's it.

Not giving the ball away isn't a sign that he's good at distributing it. Hammell wouldn't give the ball away with if all he did was play a 5ft pass to the nearest Southend player all the time.

What is your basis for giving Hammell 5 marks for covering? I presume you aren't giving him marks for covering the left back position which he is supposed to be playing in?!

because if the opposition is attacking down the right side and goes past our rightback or our rightback goes missing then it is upto the right hand central defender (clarke) to move over to rightback, then barrett moves into clarkes position while the left back moves into barrett central position. something that hammel often fails to do. Our left winger needs to track back aswell to cover the left back slot.

And Che used to give the ball away plenty anyway.

The amount of times he made a mistake that led to an attack was horrifying.

Remember when Tom Hanks screams "Wilson!!!!!!" in castaway ?, he got that after watching Southend play and hearing the Southend fans shout it after each mistake. True story. (apart from the bit I made up.)

Che was never gonna cut in the Chumpionship because of his pace, but that's it.

It was more than just his pace.

It was clear when we were in League Two Che wasnt good enough, to be fair he was slighty better in League One but even then it was clear we needed to replace him.

If Che was better than Hammell why on earth were we playing Hunt ahead of him, loaning him out despite a small squad and when he got his chance he was woeful.
