Don't disagree with any of the above. Another season in this league, and hopefully strengthen the squad, would IMO make us better prepared for Championship, if achieved.
IF we were to sneak up this season, really think we'd struggle big time, not to go straight back down.

In theory I agree. However Wordsworth, Ferdinand and Thompson are out of contract, let alone others who could get tempted by others elsewhere.

IF all three stay then you've got a point. If say 2 of the three leave are we going to be able to get similar replacements? You can only talk about strengthening when you're assuming that all of the current squad are going to sign new contracts. Is that realistic? I hope so but fear not. We've got the best chance we're going to get to go up right now IMO.

I think your right, i see no way that Southend could survive in the the Champ unless a large amount of cash was infested into the club which RM does not have. That not a reason not to go up, but the club has to be realistic, i really believe Martin can take us no further than Div 1.

Is that shark infested?

Charlton had no physical presence at the back, hence bringing Nouble on to rough them up a bit. It didn't work out but cut the guy some slack FFS.

A perpetually bullied kid at school would have roughed up the Charlton defence more than Nouble on Saturday. He really was that dire. As bad as Neil Campbell.

We would really struggle to replace Thompson, he is getting better all the time imo.

the only way to survive is to get some premier league fringe players on loan.

So abject it is unbelievable.

Walton 5 - should've saved the first, end of.
Dimi 5 - Is he trying to get a record for most fouls committed in a season?
Thompson 5 - Took him over an hour to pass to a team mate
Ferdinand 7 - So much better than everyone else. We had 1 penetrating forward pass all day, and he even had to do that.
White 7 - Shame to lose him

Macca 6 - Should have scored
Timlin 3 - Should've bossed the game back in CM, looked so lethargic. Charlton gave him so much space and he didn't use it. Awful.
Amos 5 - Tries things in the wrong place, needs experience. Not with us thanks.
Atkinson 7 - Typical hard working performace

Cox 4 - Picked the wrong option every time
Robinson 5 - Nobody passed to him, which makes life difficult

Nouble 0 - Brown's worst signing. Thought it was pointless at the time, even more so now. Horrendous footballer.

"Walton 5 - should've saved the first, end of."

I disagree. The keeper's job is to make himself as big as possible. It's poor technique to stand with ankles together. It was a lucky finish but to blame Walton is wrong IMHO.

Very impressive ground - The Valley.

Now they've double-tiered the home end and filled the sides around, it looks like a high quality venue. Really enjoyed the day. Great weather. Great atmosphere in our end. No issues parking and a pint in the ground before the game.

OK, on to the difficult bit.

RATINGS :

Walton 7 - I wouldn't blame him for anything, today. Did well enough and does deal with crosses very competently.

Demetriou 6 - Didn't have a great game. I think he misses the cover that Lenny gives. For example, their first goal initially came from an indifferent tackle by Tims, but where Demi backed off, Lenny would have come across and got a tackle in, there.

Thompson 7.5 MOM
- Probably our best player, today. Another solid performance.

Ferdinand 7 - Good to have him back in the side and loved his spirit at the end. Making sure all the players got up and saluted the supporters. Gestured to us to keep our heads up, too. If we do get over the line and into the play-offs, this fella should take a huge amount of credit.

White 7 - Was doing fine until the injury and, of course, that goal!

Timlin 7 - Did OK today. Also had to adapt to two or three different roles, due to the substitutions.

Amos 7 - Thought he did fine, but we ended up with a square midfield, which didn't help to link the play up.

McLaughlin 6.5 - I actually didn't think he did too bad. Improved performance on the last couple of home matches. He did OK with the one-on-one, until he didn't pull it back first time for Coxy to run onto.

Robinson 6 - I really wouldn't start with Theo. He just hasn't quite got the movement and sharpness needed.

Cox 7 - Quality player. Worked hard and drifted into some great positions. Snatched at his chances, though. Needs a confidence boosting goal.

SUBS :

McGlashan 6.5 - I think him and McL were on the wrong wings. They both work better, swapped over.

O'Neill 6 - Nothing much to write home about.

Nouble 5 - :smile::facepalm:

CHARLTON ATHLETIC :

Byrne and Holmes seemed to be their outlets. Thought they were OK, but our last 4 games are going to be like these, so we need to turn these guys around and put them under pressure.

REFEREE :

Thought he was pretty good, in truth.

OVERALL :

As others have said, you can't have Lenny, Wordy, Nile and Cokes missing and not be affected.

That said, I would have started with MAF and not Robbo.

Must win now, on Friday.

Can't leave it to win the last three on the spin and we'll definitely need 9 points, I would say.

Andy, you do not appear to have noticed that Atkinson was playing.......but I get that.

LOL .. Cheers 'Jaffa'

Of course :-

Atkinson 7 - Worked tirelessly, as always.

I blame it on NOT having a drink after the game! :winking:

How about some constuctive criticism of my point?

The plus side of Brown is that he is eloquent, passionate and has assembled an excellent squad. We have had plenty of managers far worse than Brown.

The negative side is his brutal treatment of players. Adam in particular, Luke and now it seems Fortune, his inability to go more than a couple of months without touting himself for any job that is or may become available and his 'mentality' issues surrounding negative play.

To be fair, since Adam put him right after Rochdale, the negativity has enormously reduced and since the 13th game this has been an enjoyable season.

Four games left and with Ranger we are capable of winning them all but without Ranger it would be very difficult
.

I'd only be able to offer "some constructive criticism" if I saw more games and not just the 10 minute BP highlights.

FWIW,I agree with your plus points and your conclusion.

Thought Prosser was a limited, essentially L2 player.Clearly PB made up his mind after the first 12 games that AB was no longer up to it.I didn't see those games but the results rather speak for themselves. Then and since.Haven't seen MAF play live, so again no comment.

Brown is a high profile manager who will always be linked with bigger clubs in the North, while we continue to do well under his management.IMO,he's done an excellent job for us since taking over from PS and doesn't deserve a lot of the stick he often gets on here.

Would love our new stadium (if we get one) to be like Charlton's!

Defence was doing ok, but midfield lacked any attacking ideas, and the build up (or lack of it) was soooo slow and mainly sideways. Why don't we ever pass the ball early into the channels? Charlton packed their defence and were frightened early doors, but as usual we had no gumption on how to break them down - as we cant do against other teams who do the same. Resorting to hitting long balls to a non exhistant target man (who was sitting on the bench) was pointless.

Walton 7 - unlucky with the 1st goal imo, player should have been tackled by Atkinson before he got on to Dometriou

Dimi 6 - Never stopped trying although he was not having the best of games

Thompson 7 - Thought he played quite well

Ferdinand 8.5 - Much better than everyone else.
:Worthy:

White 7 - Was playing well until the injury

Macca 4 - Awful from start to finish, couldn't pass to one of ours and oh that one on one!:blush:

Timlin 6 - Didn't pick a pass, but then again not many opportunities to do so.

Amos 4 - He is not ready yet

Atkinson 5 - Headless chicken, back to sideways backwards and left Dometriou exposed so many times. Would not tackle and stood off his man constantly

Cox 5 - Worked hard but scuffed shots and gave the ball away too often. No real chances made for him though

Robinson 5 - Nothing to feed off, no passes into the channels or behind the defence for him

Nouble 2 - Missed what seemed to be a sitter, looked unfit and slow.

O.Neil 2 was he on the pitch?

McGlashen 3 as for Robinson

PB 5 wrong team selection imo and then wrong subs.
:stunned:

Ref 8 thought he did well.

Fans 9 :high five:

Forgot to really say, on Saturday.

Our support was superb.

2,500 (about 1/3 of our home gate) and everyone impeccably behaved, including the minute's applause for Mike Norris.

Sang from start to finish.

Deserved more from the match, because of this alone!

Totally agree, but must admit was surprised by the very large Police presence after the game. Appreciate they dictate what numbers they deem as necessary, but many Police Vans outside our 'end'. Police Horses up that side road going back to the station, loads of coppers flanking the pavement, and many more outside/ at the station!.
Has'nt been any 'history' between the fans since the early 70's, and neither of us have a troublesome reputation overall.
If that's the amount they feel they need on duty when we play there, would love to know how many on duty when Millwall play there!.
