The Valley is a beautiful stadium and worthy of top flight status.

Anyway back to the 90 minutes.

Cox and Robbo played too far apart,Nouble was cack,in fact we looked lost without Wordy and Lenny,Amos not suited to this league .

I thought Charlton were OK BUT we should have shared the points at the very least.

Past 2 games have killed us.

You just don't like Phil Brown,do you? :winking:

How about some constuctive criticism of my point?

The plus side of Brown is that he is eloquent, passionate and has assembled an excellent squad. We have had plenty of managers far worse than Brown.

The negative side is his brutal treatment of players. Adam in particular, Luke and now it seems Fortune, his inability to go more than a couple of months without touting himself for any job that is or may become available and his 'mentality' issues surrounding negative play.

To be fair, since Adam put him right after Rochdale, the negativity has enormously reduced and since the 13th game this has been an enjoyable season.

Four games left and with Ranger we are capable of winning them all but without Ranger it would be very difficult.

Walton 6 - Not as good as previous matches, kicking was generally good. Gifted them the first.

Demetriou 5 - A defender who is poor defensively... also not a fan of players who get caught attacking and don't bother tracking back half the time.
Thompson 7 - good performance, some distribution a bit wayward but otherwise solid.
Ferdinand 8 - as above but with better distribution.
White 8 - We do look better with him than without. Got a goal too.

Atkinson 7 - Put a shift in, but didn't really create anything.
Amos 6 - he will be a good player, but not quite ready yet... Has a superb football brain but the execution lacks at times.
Timlin 7 - Committed in midfield, worked hard and broke up their play.
McLaughlin 4 - Pretty awful. Hasn't looked very good since he's been back... didn't go past anyone today and missed some very good chances.

Robinson 5 - Runs around a lot but never looks like scoring. I don't understand the love-in with him from our fans...
Cox 4 - Nothing really went right today for him, poor passing and woefully scuffed shots aren't good enough for your number one striker.

Subs
McGlashan 6 - Didn't notice him much to be honest, ran around but didn't offer much more.
O'Neill 6 - Plugged a hole when needed but not the player you need when pushing for a goal.
Nouble 5 - Not going to be as harsh as others on a player who has had next to no game time. Wouldn't have been my choice to come on anyways!

Robinson: The fans remember him first time around, he is not half as quick (some kid themselves) think he had a knee problem, he was a 5 to 11 buy, hardly scored for Lincoln, but done something in the cup 2.5 year deal, must have a really good agent.

Unless MAF is ill or injured, I'm shocked. Frank N has the touch of a Rap*is* how is this clown on our team sheet? Tell me?

That was like a game back in August when players were out injured. Our strength in depth still isn't anywhere near good enough

Very harsh on Theo, he's looked really good in the last few games. Yesterday he was asked to play a more central role and it just didn't suit him. He's never been a particularly good header of the ball, his skill is with ball to feet.

Oh and thanks Pauly, for replying to my question about Lenny. Have to hope Woody is back Friday then.

the poster asked why there is so much love for the player, I pointed out what is for (last time around) he is not the same player, I doubt anyone would have given a non league player a 2.5 year deal? His agent is clever

Any squad outside Man City and Chelsea wouldnt fail to suffer from 5 first team players out at the same time !

Adam and Luke were not good enough for us to push on. Brutal ? Well football is brutal now isn't it !

The MAF one is funny , when he was signed PB was ridiculed for bringing in such a n over aged has been now he's being critisiced because he didn't bring him on yesterday ...

So, after such a brilliant run of results over 30 games, we are now giving all credit to AB after Rochdale and because of 2 defeats we are blaming PB ?!? Personally can't see how how anyone can question the manner of the defeat on Tuesday , yesterday i sort of can , but I still think with those players absent most teams would struggle.

No one can deny the instant impact that Theo Robinson has had when he comes on as sub. Pace up front has changed games. Last week he was the hero making one and scoring one when down to ten men. He obviously isn't quite as good when starting, but sounds like yesterdays tactics and the position he played didn't suit as well. He suits the ball out wide, over the top or threaded through. He doesn't suit the type of balls Ranger receives, with his back to goal.

Charlton were awful really and we should have done better with the players available. We had more of the possession twice as many shots. Apart from the goals Walton did not have anything to save. The difference was Rudd kept his legs together for Theo's shot and Walton's were far too apart for Holmes.

We set up defensively Amos, Timlin and Atkinson were too reluctant to support Robinson and Cox who were too isolated and played too far apart from each other. White was never going to get forward as much as Coker. As has been said by others if Ranger is not playing Fortune needs to be up front with Cox. Robinson is not a target man and Cox was less effective. I thought McLaughlin did OK but is still no where as sharp as he was before he was injured.

McGlashan showed that more often than not he is not really good enough - he has pace but not much else.
Nouble took me back to the much lamented Richard Young if older viewers can remember him.

With seven on the bench its a shame that a couple of youngsters did not take up two of the places. What was the point of both McGlashan and Hines and Mooney Nouble and Fortune. I presume Bridge has no chance of ever being selected again. He could have given something slightly different.

Despite all that we still apparently had 13 goal attempts. I forgive Nouble his last minute miss from the header though - I thought he did well to get to McGlashan's wayward shot.

Don't forget Bolger and to an extent Worrall last season and also Jack Bridge this season.

Cross him and you're dead!

Think the majority of you are being very generous. We were **** poor and got what we deserved against the weakest Charlton team of my lifetime.

Tommo comfortably our best player, 7
White decent, shame about the injury as him going off made our shape go pete tong, 6

The rest, 4

Nouble!?!?! Absolutely bloody useless, Mooney & MAF both would have been better options surely.

Great away support but not felt that low leaving a game since September - think we've just blown play-offs. Going to have to win 3 of the last 4 minimum and based on that I can't see it. Chesterfield, Shrews, Bury will probably all be needing wins to stay up.

Out of our hands now and we have to start relying on other teams which is never nice

Having now seen the 10 minutes of highlights on BluesPlayer I'm amazed at how many chances and half chances we had in the latter part of the second half, and I bet McLaughlin is still cursing himself for his poor control when breaking one-on-one on the Charlton keeper - he certainly should have scored there; Cox's flick on to give McLaughlin that chance was excellent by the way. I wasn't impressed by the fact that Theo had at least four shots from narrow angles when he would have been better to have crossed to the men waiting in the middle. Maybe he was influenced by Holmes' goal - which should have been stopped by Walton but nutmegged him.

The body language of our lads at the end suggests they know their chance has gone, but if we can bounce back against a poor Chesterfield side then it will all be on again............ oh, blo*dy football, eh?

Think it was more of a case of shortage of match time and fitness caught up with Theo second half yesterday. Also playing to his strengths which with yesterdays midfield was a non starter

As many on here have already said,Browns decision not to start with Fortune' was unbelievably stupid but also he must have known but did nothing noticeable about the fact we were playing a very poor team WITH ONE OUTSTANDING PLAYER.

Desperately dispointing again from southend. Us fans again turn up in huge numbers only to be disappointed, not only in defeat but the manner of defeat. I spoke to a steward before the game, he said this is the worse Charlton side he had ever seen. We made them look decent.

What this game did show is we've are no way good enough to go up and if we did we would struggle. You can lose 4 or 5 players from the team and struggle so badly.
PB has said that this is his best Southend squad, yet a few absentees and we look a very different outfit.
. Think we will have to win all four to stand any chance and in yesterday's evidence that is unlikely and maybe not such a bad thing

Don't disagree with any of the above. Another season in this league, and hopefully strengthen the squad, would IMO make us better prepared for Championship, if achieved.
IF we were to sneak up this season, really think we'd struggle big time, not to go straight back down.
