Centenary Ball photos

You have to appreciate that no matter whether we are promoted/relegated or mid table, player 'groupies' of both male and female persuasion exist and like mingling with the players and they were doing part of their job by being there. It's a money spinner and if some people want to spend the night and their money in the company of players who struggle to string two sentences together by having them on their table that's up to them.

Did the players leave at the earliest opportunity?

Were some not there?

I put in an appearance at the Trust do and most of the players huddled in a corner and did not mingle and the couple I spoke to struggled to put two sentences together, I shudder at the thought of being sat next to them for a three course dinner. The exception is Barrett, good conversation.

However, that do cost £2-50 which gave me a voucher for a 'beer',I use that term loosely, very watery, and I understand why the regulars drink inthe Spread.

One contrast to last year's big do is the absence of SZoners posting their photos on this site, they got a right slating last year for that.

I don't personally get starstruck, but if some people do, let the cash go to the club.

Do you actually know exactly what people got for their ticket price?

And...the players actually stayed right until the end of the evening, and weren't huddled in a corner at any point.

Also, I would like to point out that (as the title suggests) it was a 'Centenary Ball' - which was to celebrate 100 years of Southend United Football Club, and not the last season. This event was requested by supporters so as to end the Centenary celebrations on a high.

I know what they got in that I paid close attention to the advertising as I considered going, but lack of interest from immediate friends meant I was not going to fill a table, plus I am not keen on black tie.

I look to put cash in the coffers where possible.

If there were other things you 'got' come out and say what they were.

I seem to have touched a nerve, perhaps you work for the club?

I have no deep desire to mix and mingle with players, find it hard that grown ups get star struck (I mean we only have one star!) ,but do feel some players could make more of an effort when in the company of fans.Maybe on Saturday they did.

To be fair, with or without the players it would have been a good night. It was just a really good party and everyone seemed to have a brilliant time. All the players seemed to be friendly and having a laugh with everyone and I didnt see any player that made a t!t of himself. They all just had a good time and they all stayed until the end. I couldnt say there was one bad thing about the night.

I would say the price was reasonable for what you got throughout the whole night. You got to keep a copy of your entrance photo, a centenary paperwight gift thing which isnt that exciting but something to keep I guess, and a centenary programme. There was a champagne reception, four course dinner, good entertainment and music, excellent facilities. They did the players player award, speeches from Ron, Tilly and Brush, apperances from Southend "legends". It looked a very expensive do and anyone that went would have felt satisfied with what they got. I dont think the ball was at all about "starstruck" adults wanting to meet the players, it was about celebrating 100 years of SUFC.

Completely agree! I was completely surprised by the whole event and thought it was 10 times better than I had expected. When I first realised the cost, I did think that maybe the price was a little steep but after really enjoying the night, I think it was worth every penny.

Like Sam said, it wasn't just about meeting the players, it was a chance for the fans to get together and celebrate the one thing we all have in common and a good night was had by all!

Thanks for that girls. Glad to hear it wasn't another ballsup by SUFC. Looks like a fun night and similar to many a night I had up in Cambridge. Perhaps not as raucously drunk mind. Still think we've missed out a little on maximising out centernary but this goes someway to making up for it!

Very happy at the outcome, good for attendees and the club coffers, clearly paid too much attention to their presence at the much cheaper Trust do.

Well we thought the same thing until she spoke, thick as too planks. Managed to get her work hours mixed up when she was talking about her job she said she worked 5.30 till 9.30 then someone corrected her and she still didnt seem to realise what was going on.....

Maybe she didn't get the hours mixed up and works nights :D

Good shout but wrong.
And no, she's not been a model in Fiesta!

Where's the "I've taken offence with you constantly giving me the finger" smilie?

So what you are trying to say then is, that she is an Escort.

:D
