Celeb deaths that have "affected" you..

The main one for me would be Paul Hunter who died at the age of 27 I think.
I had actually watched him play live (and wanted him to lose) against Davis just a month before he was diagnosed. Just scary that someone who was at their height of their powers and appeared to have it all could have their life taken so suddenly.

I remember clearly hearing about when both Kurt Cobain and John Peel died....moments like that stay with you.

Not slightly bothered about MJ dying although i will always remember the day as its the day i split with my ex missus .

Also Remember where i was when Princess Di died , i was passed out on my pals living room floor after his 18th bday party , didn't know how i got there but was about 10 others crashed out on his floor .

As put in previous thread Mr Mayogi was a fav of mine and had an unofficial minutes silence for him as well as Rod Hull .

Rod Hulls minutes silence was ruined by someone running around the trading pit with a yellow cut off trading jacket like an Emu ...going mad like when he attacked Parky ...although a little disrespectfull it was one of the funniest things i've ever seen .....you can't by that humour !!

Pricess Dianas passing was a shock, i'd been midnight bowling with GNH and Carly, got in about 3 and it was all over the TV

Kurt Cobain was a blow (especially as it was about 3 weeks before i was due to see them play)

Richard Wright dying meant i knew i'd never see Pink Floyd play again, there had been serious rumours about a reunion tour including the return of Roger Waters but Ricks death ended it, he and Dave Gilmour were very very close and he wouldn't even contemplate it without RW

I was only 10 at the time so John Lennons death didn't affect me at the time, however later in life and to this day i get terribly upset when i think of his untimely end .. if that utter **** Mark Chapman is released i hoped he lies dead within 5 minutes .. off to dry my eyes :'(

What I'll say about that one is that I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news; there aren't many others about whom I can say that. That was earth-shattering at the time, even though I'm no huge F1 fan.

it didnt affect me in so much that i was a huge fan of his, but up until that point, during my growing up watching F1, i cant recall anyone had actually died while i had been watching it (yes Ratzenburger the previous day, but that wasnt in the actual race)... now everytime i see a nasty crash while watching F1 it makes me wince (especially Massa's) . The oddest thing is, the crash at the time didnt look as bad as some that people have walked away from unscathed.

A sad loss indeed, but he had been ill for a long time. The ones that affect people most tend to be the ones that aren't expected, Princess Di, Matthew Harding et etc

True, but I'm not really affected by celeb deaths. Like Lady Di, I was woken up to be told she died, rolled over shouted good for her and went back to bed.

Didn't affect me in the slightest, whereas a legend like Sir Bobby did.

It would have affected you a hell of a lot more had he not been ill though.

True, but thats neither here nor there.

The question asked was which celeb deaths affected you the most and I said Sir Bobby.

That's why I said the ones that TEND to affect people most, a generalisation, not talking about you or what should affect you. Please read things properly.

The title of this thread is celeb deaths, I picked 2 celebs. I could have said Payne Stewart just as easily, but he is a sportsman, much the same as Bobby Robson was a sportsman.

It's very minimal, from my perspective. Thousands of people die every day, not just in front of the cameras or a microphone.

There's the instant shock of 'Blimey' when someone famous dies prematurely but that's about it. Michael Jackson this year springs to mind but the one I was surprised by most, despite his size and rumours of lifestyle, was when Elvis died.

Marc Vivien Foe, although not a celebrity, was a jolt, too, as he was well known in football circles and he died in front of our eyes on the pitch.

Not a celebrity but add Mike North

The first, and hopefully last person who has died in front of my very eyes

That was truly shocking. He looked like he had just stumbled backwards and fell. Being told the game had been abandoned confirmed what we all thought in the South Upper.

I was in the South Upper too dwb and i'm pretty certain he didn't stumble at all .. he just fell straight down without even trying to break his fall by changing his footwork or by thrusting out an arm, IMO he was dead before he hit the floor .. awful awful tragedy

Now thats one that does stick in the mind espically the reaction of teh players and watching it from East Green you were a bit to close to it.

Not a massive stumble, little step back before falling straight back as you you say without even trying to break his fall. At the time it looked a bit like he tripped over something.
