"Cele" Spotting

BoyWonder2

2024, the year of the Shrimpers ⭐🦐
At Duke last night, a certain Tesfaye Bramble and Kieron Dyer were out and about (I was told Titus was going to be there but had drove down from Newcastle and was shattered).

I spoke to Tes, well I had to because everyone else was talking to Dyer. I told him that I thought he played ok at Northampton but he disagreed. I asked him about his hamstring, to which he replied it was still sore. He finds out more about it today but he isn't hopeful of being fit to play on saturday but is confident in the lads that we will beat Northampton, to which I shook his hand and let him get on with his night.

Couple of things though. Tes is a decent enough bloke and easy to talk to, if not very bright. But should he be out drinking, and smoking (Only saw him smoke once so he may not be a smoker) in the lead up to the most important game of the season? Now, I know that their will be plently of time to get it out of his system, I'd be more worried if it were friday night. But with a hamstring thats feeling sore, should he really be out at Dukes? He didn't dance (That I saw) and stayed in pretty much the same spot.

Opinions?!

I often have a ciggie before a game and at half time and I find it doesn't affect my performance at all.

sh*t with or without it before anyone comments !

I except that but his told me he had physio on his hamstring today, so should he be on the **** before a physio session? Also, should he be on the **** before training. If I were Tilson, I'd be furious if someone turned up with a hang over for training.

I can understand it during the close season, or after a match (To celebrate, comisarate(Spelling?!) depending on the result).

I cannot understand how any professional athlete can smoke. At any professional level it's all about getting that slight advatage over an oponent who has as much talent as you. Smoking is bound to disadvantage you. How thick can you get. And that goes for Gower as well.
PS and it's also a filthy habit.

A agree regarding smoking, but physio for much an injury would involve non-cardio exercises and as such would really matter what state your head/lungs are in.

However, I agree its foolish to smoke with your career on the line. Maybe Gower could do with stopping smoking and start improving his fitness. How annoying for him to describe himself as "not the fitness of players"! He is be so determined to get fit not sit there and just accept it.

Nevermind, you can lead a horse to water...

The thing is though, his Southend United career is hanging on by a thread. Things like turning up hang over (I only saw him drink a couple of JD and Cokes and a shot of aftershock possibly) might persuade Tilly to release him. He may deem it as unprofessional.

Studies have proven time and time again that drinking slows the re-habilitation of injury however serious and that he smokes, well i just can't believe that, even a few fags once in a while has an awful effect on lung capacity and the amount of oxygen that he will be able to get to his muscles will be seriously diminished therefore meaning he wont be able to run for as long at such high intensities.

Quote[/b] (* ORM * @ May 17 2005,12:47)]How did Carl Lewis manage it on 15 a day then ?
Sprinting- 10 seconds a few times every few weeks and big events only once every four years
Football- 90 minutes of exertion, at least every week...

It's an age old problem with footballers though isn't it? Look at Frank Worthington, Stan Bowles and all the other booze and fags players from the 60's/70's (and probably earlier). They've always done it - it's a working class sport and that's the background most players come from. Not excusing it, just saying...

Maybe its in their background but these days things have changed, George Best Bobby Charlton and Denis Law used to argue in training about who was going to wear socks with holes and who wasn't, things have changed now.
The Carl Lewis comment was right, ok he did become the greatest athlete on the planet on 15 a day but the oxidative systems used in sprinting and long jump aren't the same as in a football match of even a 400m race.
Football uses both aerobic and an-aerobic systems to get the energy used but without enough oxygen getting into the body lactate builds up causing decreases in muscle power and increases in muscle fatigue.

OK David Jack was a chain smoker but those days have gone. You have to be professional these days. I bet
